Fosamax side effects tend to develop after long term use of the medication. Therefore, the fact that you have not experienced jaw decay during the time you have taken the medication does not mean that you have less of a risk for ONJ developing in the future. If you have concerns about the Fosamax jaw problems, you should definitely review those with your doctor. You should not stop taking any medication without speaking with your physician first. I just had a friend dye of osteonecrosis of the jaw. I am not taking it any further. I have just battled cancer for the 4th time and thank God for that, now I have to worry about this..........never did my dentist ask if I took Foxamas. It has been so long since I started taking it that I think I took it daily until probably7 years ago when they came out with the once weekly dose, and now they have once monthly..............They started me on it when I went through menopause and I am now 70.
