The contact lens solution Complete MoisturePlus has been directly linked to a rare eye infection from Acanthamoeba, which can cause blindness.  The lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are reviewing potential contact lens lawsuits for users who experienced problems.

>>INFORMATION: Complete Moisture Plus Lawsuits

Complete MoisturePlus solution is made by Advanced Medical Optics (AMO).  It is an “all-in-one” contact lens solution which is used by millions of Americans.  In November 2006, over 3 million bottles of the contact lens solution were recalled as a result of a bacterial contamination.  However, health officials have indicated that this problem does not appear to be caused by contamination, but rather due to the design of the product.

>>PRIOR POST (11/26/2006): Complete Moisture Plus Contact Lens Solution Recall

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have linked an outbreak of the rare but serious eye infection directly to the Complete Moisture Plus solution.  Exact numbers are not yet known, but there have been at least 140 cases reported to date.

>>UPDATE 5/27/2007: Complete Moisture Plus Solution Removed from Market

Eye-care centers around the United States have been tracking increased cases of eye infections from Acanthamoeba for the past three years.  Acanthamoeba is a free-living amoeba, and was previously known to occur in just one or two times each year for every one million contact lens wearers.  Acanthamoeba keratitis is not easy to treat and is difficult to detect since symptoms are similar to eye irritation.  It is a devastating eye infection which can lead to cornea transplants and blindness.

Researchers at the University of Illinois in Chicago have been tracking nearly 70 cases in the that region since June 2003.  The American Journal of Ophthalmology indicated that they intend to publish a paper from the researchers in a future publication.

CONTACT LENS EYE INFECTION LAWYERS

Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. currently represent contact lens wearers who suffered a fungal infection known as Fusarium Keratitis as a result of problems with the Bausch & Lomb ReNu with Moisture Loc which was recalled last year.  The ReNu with MoistureLoc solution caused an outbreak of Fusarium Keratitis because it allowed the bacteria to grow.  At this time, it is not clear whether there will be a Complete MoisturePlus recall, but our lawyers will be closely following this matter.

I have been using this product for over a year, and I was wondering where to get checked for this infection, because I’ve experienced some of the symptoms.

I used this solution and went to the emrg. room because I could not see. Still have blurred vision. They said I had corneal abrasion on the right and left eyes and gave me morafine and antib eye drops. I feel very dizzy still with a slight headache and bad vision. This all happened after I got new contacts and new solution that my eye care provider told me to buy. Does this sound like what you are talking about? Thanks Donna
