>>INFORMATION: OxyContin Lawsuits
On May 10, 2007 it was announced by the Office of Criminal Investigations branch of the FDA that top company officials of Purdue Pharma LP, including the president, chief legal officer and chief medical officer pled guilty and agreed to pay $600 million in fines. This has resulted in anger from users around the country who now realize that problems they experienced after taking OxyContin may have been avoided if the company had acted responsibly.
OxyContin is a slow release pain medication designed to decrease pain levels registered by the brain. The FDA approved OxyContin in a 12 hour dosage, so that it can be dissolved slowly. The makers of OxyContin aggressively promoted the drug for use ever 8 hours, despite the fact that the FDA only approved use every 12 hours. Their false and misleading representations to doctors made the drug substantially more dangerous and increased the risk of OxyContin addiction for users.
>>INFORMATION: Oxycontin addiction problems
OxyContin is dangerous and highly addictive. This product should be taken with care at all times and should never be abused. The fact that trusted healthcare professionals were intentionally misinformed shows the disregard that Purdue Pharma LP has for its customers by placing them directly in harms way so that they could increase company profits.
