The lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are reviewing potential hernia patch lawsuits nationwide for individuals who have experienced problems following a hernia repair surgery. Potentially defective patches with dual-mesh technology manufactured by Davol,Inc. could result in serious and life-threatening injuries. Potential lawsuits are being reviewed even if the mesh used was not part of a prior Davol Kugel Hernia Patch recall.

>>INFORMATION: Hernia Patch Lawsuits

Since October 2005, there have been three separate recalls involving different sizes of Davol Bard Composix Kugel Hernia Mesh, which contain a memory recoil ring. Defects in the design of the hernia repair patches caused some of the plastic rings to break, resulting in serious injuries such as bowel perforation, chronic intestinal fistula and death.

However, there have been reports of problems after hernia repair surgery involving other patches which were not part of these recalls. Hernia patches which utilize a dual-mesh technology, combining palypropylene mesh with an expanded polytetrafluorothyleene (ePTFE) layer, both with and without a memory recoil ring, have been associated with defects which could be responsible for serious injuries.

Hernia patch lawsuits filed in Federal courts throughout the United States have been consolidated for pretrial proceedings as part of a multi-district Hernia Patch litigation (also known as an MDL). The MDL, which is similar to a Hernia patch class action, combines individual lawsuits involving “common questions of facts” for discovery and pre-trial motions.

Last month, the U.S. District Judge who is overseeing Davol hernia patch lawsuits issued an order requiring the manufacturer to preserve additional documents relating to other hernia repair products that include dual-mesh, regardless of whether they also include a ring.

The consolidated hernia patch litigation now includes the following products made by Davol (also known as Bard and Surgical Sense):

  • Composix Kugel Hernia Patch
  • Kugel Hernia Patch
  • Ventralex Hernia Patch
  • CK Parastomal Hernia Patch
  • Modified Kugel Patch
  • Composix E/X Hernia Mesh
  • Composix Mesh
  • Composix L/P Mesh
  • CruraSoft Patch

HERNIA PATCH LAWSUIT EVALUATION

The product liability lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are reviewing potential lawsuits for any individuals who have had a hernia repair surgery since 2000 and subsequently experienced problems which could be related to the hernia patch. Symptoms could include pain, discomfort, bowel perforation, intestinal problems or death.

It is not necessary that individuals have a product subject to a prior hernia patch recall to qualify for a claim, and most individuals are unaware of the specific type of hernia repair mesh used. Following a free consultation, our hernia mesh lawyers will review the medical records to help determine if problems may be related to a defective Davol hernia patch. Request a free consultation and hernia patch lawsuit evaluation.

I am writing on behalf of a friend who had a very bad result from a bilatereal hernia “repair” operation. According to the operative report, the doctor placed a “3-D Max patch” on both sides.
My friend had a serious partial ileus and was very ill for about 2 months post op. Further, the hernias were not repaired.

well I’m post surgery for removal of eroded mesh “flat sheets” from Bard, product number not on recall list. But I had no choice but open surgery to remove the mesh because it caused so many complications within me. I spent 2.5 weeks in hospital because of internal leaks, etc. I’m home now but still healing. My surgery was only in 2001 as a result of abdominal surgery not hernia.

Hi Lisa. I really feel bad for what you have went through. I had my first hernia repair in 2002 and my life has been a nightmare ever since that day. Three hernia repairs on right side to remove mesh and entrapped nerves, leaving me with chronic lower right back pain and lower abdominal chronic pain and very bad swelling, which hasn’t went down since the surgery. My life has completely changed since this one surgery. I have the bard mesh on the left side, and I’m really getting worried, because Now I am beginning to have the same problems on the left side that I have been having, and continue to have on the right. Prolene mesh, flat used on right side, but it feels like I was injected with something lethal and deadly, no joke!!!! I have never endured this much pain in my entire life, so it’s obvious these mesh patches are causing extreme damages, long term damages at that. I am only 37 and I feel like I’m 56 because of how slow I have to walk now. I can’t sit nor can I stand for long periods at a time, and that is very frustrating considering how athletic and energetic I used to be. I feel like a new me, but instead of a bubbly, upbeat, on the go me, a more depressed, socially withdrawn and frustrated me. Never in a million years did I ever think my life would change so drastically due to a simple hernia surgery. What really blew me away, was about 2 years ago, after my surgeon had retired, a friend of mine was at a gas station filling up our vehicle, and inside of the lil station we see my surgeon up at the counter loaded with beer and wine. YOu can only imagine the first thought that went through my mind when I saw that. I will not make false accusations, but wow!!! That is all I can say. Makes you wonder a bit. Especially considering how his story seemed to changed so often when discussing the treatments he had performed on me. I’m thinking if he doesn’t even remember what he did, how can he have done it successfully in the first place? One time he told me he put mesh in the right side, then another time he told me he didn’t. I finally had to get my medical records to see exactly what he did. Anyway, hang in there Lisa. I think Prayer really does help me, but I still find myself being depressed and frustrated because I’m not seeing a miracle. Hopefully one day. God bless and hang in there.

I had a right inquinal hernia repair in 2003. I noticed above the repair a tennis size ball and no tender. It moves around. Not so sure if it is related to the hernia repair.

I went through the same thing. I had my first hernia repair surgery on Aug.25Th of 2007. That’s right after I had my second child on July 20Th of 2007. And since that surgery, I was going through some pain. 4 months afther the surgery I was still having pains and my stomach was still looking like I was about 4 months pregnant. My stomach was so hard.I had infection and the pain was hurting me so bad it had me ball up in a knot it felt like painful cramps. I couldn’t do any exercise b/c it would hurt and i couldn’t even hold my baby. I could have felt something was floating around in my stomach and it will hurt. I also had felt something was poking me in my navel.(I mean it actually felt like someone was using a knife and was poking me in my naval. It hurted so bad that I would have to lift up my skin where my navel was just to kept it from poking me. I couldn’t turn or bend down a certain way b/c it will hurt. so I went throuh some stuff. So now I had my second surgery done on April 25th of 2008. So now I’m walking around with no navel and I can not have any more kids b/c of the first surgery. the doctor that did my second surgery he had to cut me open and take out all that stuff that the first doctor had put in me. The second doctor told me I had to get this surgery done and he told me that he didn’t have no other choice but to do that.He said that I could have die in a couple months if i didn’t got that done.

I had my hernia surgery in 2001. Maybe six months to a year later i started experiencing some problems with my bowel movements. By the way i had both left and right lower inguinal hernia’s repaired at the same time. The patch was a new procedeure then. Back to my problems. As time went on it became almost a punishment to have to take a crap. Because afterwards i would be in alot of pain. Starting in my abdominal area then eventually really bad lower back pain. I don’t have any health ins. and it cost so much to see a doctor, plus the fact that i’m a construction worker, i just had to deel with the pain. Iwent through many a sleepless night curled up in a ball wondering what was wrong with me. Whenever i would have sex it also seemed like i was being punished because the pain i would have to endure. Icouldn’t figure out what was wrong untill i saw the commercial about the recall. When isaw that i new right away that was it. On the otherhand trying to get some help is not easy. Ihave the medical records of my surgery. Hopefully since they have expanded there investigations to more patches i can get someone to help me. Ihave a 9,000 dollar emergency room bill, that states exactly that i was suffering from unexplained extreme abdominal pain. This was before i new about the recall so i did not know what to tell them, they did a few tests plus a cat scan and were not able to find out what was wrong. I have other problems but ther hard to explain.

10/2/08 I like everyone else, I also have had surgery back in Sept12,2003.in Manatee Fl,it was an emergency surgey I never knew I even had a hernia until I had a regular ob/gyn check-up.I had been working landscaping, lawn work some 15 years, Then be told you got to quit work now because you about to bust your intestens open. So I had the hernia surgery,I followed all doctors orders to the tee, When I was cleared told I could go back to work,I did. But shortly afterwards I started getting heartburn yeast infections Alot of same signs I had before, but didn’t know what they were, the biggest is fluid retention,in the knees and the feet.Yes I have gone to doctors, BUT ONCE THEY FIND OUT THAT YOU HAVE ONE HERNIA,THEY DON’T WANT TO DO ANYTHING FOR YOU OR DOES THE STATE, THEIR’S ALOT OF RED TAPE,PLUS MELPRACTISE LAW SUITES THAT COULD PUT MORE SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS,i FEEL THE (FDA0 FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WAS ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL TO LET THIS HAPPEN FOR SO LONG TO SO MANY PEOPLE,and they like me not be able to get any help other thenpain we live with from day to day. Ihad to quit a new job that I had just started 3 weeks ago, shortage of breath, feet swelling, double over with cramps, I even denined getting help from Social Sercurity,or SSI until I can get some other help, I am homeless, lost everything because cann’t hold job down, with what I have. Even back in 2004 I called the doctor that done the surgery he was no longer at the address of Manatee Hospital.NO one knew where he went, I was getting this from the hospital other county doctors, anyone that he had ties with,THAT INCLIDED THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT THAT SENT ME TO HIM.THEIR IS ALOT OF RED TAPE COVER UPS. HOW MUCH ?What scary is how much kick back is involed? that us little people got hurt with.Ineed medical help tody not 10 years down the road. Screw the RED TAPE help us.

I had a hernia surgery on March 2008 and since then I have had nothing but pain in my lower back and in my stomach. I have been to the Dr. and he more or less says that it’s nothing and just wants me to go to the pain clinic. I have had 8 hernia repairs before and have never felt like this before. It feels like there is a whole in the mesh and nothing but pian. I can’t walk more than 1.5 hrs without being miserable. It is hard to get comfortable and this seems like a crazy way to have to live life.

I am on my 4th operation since the first hernia repair. The doctor said that I developed a small hernia at the end of the mesh so he supposedly repaired that. Next I go in for follow-up only to have the same egg shaped lump on my stomach. He said it was only fluid and it would go away. It hasn’t and neither did all the pan I feel everytime I go to urinate. For months I was treated for a urinary tract infection only to later have a CT scan that showed I had a metal staple penetrating my bladder and pulling it up in the air like a tent. The urologist did a procedure to release the bladder by cutting the staple. Only then did he tell me he has never seen a mess like I have in 35 years of practice and that my pain will probably not go away as it is irritating my bladder. I can’t get no surgeon to touch this mess and my insurance has yet to let me go to a hospital out of the area that will fix the problem and that are well equipped to do the surgery successfully. I feel for all the people who write to this website and pray for you all. Please post my comments to all as they need to know they are not alone or crazy.

It is amazing how these surgies change your life. People think laproscopic surgery – no problem. Well 4 abdominal hernia surgeries later, chronic pain, 29 incision from one surgery…WOW…I wear a brace 24 hours a day to try to keep the pain down. I also experience the hard as a rock bulge, can not bend, cramping take your breathe away pain. I have been back to my doctor, who is wonderful @ Vanderbilt, but after a CT scan it was determined that to remove the mesh could be life threatning. I am only 40 with family and successful career and this is horrible. It all started with a laproscopic gall bladder removal.

I had Bard Ventralex patch on a naval hernai sept 2007. It’s been tender
everyday and down right painfull some nights. Have to sleep sitting up
on the couch most nights. Ever since the surgery my belly has enlarged and it feels like I’ve got a pillow growing in there. My wife thinks I’m fat. I can’t exercise to get rid of the belly due to pain. Can’t work like I used to without pain such as mowing or raking leaves anything like that. I saw a doctor a couple monthsa fter sugery and they did ultrasound. Tech said he saw a “mass” didn’t know what it was. It’s been 14 months and still not better.

    Hello everyone,

I too, have had the same problems as all of you. My first surgery was in 1996 to have my spleen removed. After that one, I had a hernia repair, in the same incision in 2001. Then in 2004, my surgeon had to go back into the same spot due to swelling in the repaired area. Again in 2005, I had to have an additional surgery, in the same incision again, to have even more swelling reduced (it was fluid buildup in the left upper quadrant of my abdomen). My surgeon decided to put a larger mesh patch in at that time and told me he left the medium sized patch in as well. I can honestly say that since the first hernia repair in 2001, my life has been pure hell. I cannot sleep in a bed, I too sleep in my recliner every night. I cannot wear any type of clothing that zips or buttons or snaps because of the swelling in the area. I have lived 8 years wearing nothing but stretchy pants and sweats. I have gained close to 100 pounds since all this began. My general practitioner believes it’s an unconscious effort to overcompensate for the swelling in the left side of my body. I have lived with, at times, the most excrutiating pain I have ever had to deal with (and I have given birth both vaginal with no meds and C-section not to mention the 4 surgeries in the same area and another surgery to try to remove a blood clot in my liver). I am visiting my surgeon again on Monday, the 2nd, in hopes that he will remove this patch and find another way to “fix” me. Please keep me in your prayers, as I will all of you, and lets hope removing the patch will alleviate some, if not most of my pain.

My comment is to Alice and the others. Please find another surgeon at a larger teaching hospital to repair a problem for the second time. You need to research alot and pray that they will help you. I had the mesh removed after 2 botched ones and my bladder had to be cut to remove the staples he used unnecessarily the last time. I hope you get all the help you need.

Wow ! I thought I was losing my mind until I read some of your comments. I had surgery in June of 2006 to repair two strangulated hernias and was in constant pain until December of 2008. At that time I had a CT Scan, a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy and was told that there was nothing wrong. On January 09,2009 I had emergency surgery to repair a blockage, four ventral hernias, adhesions and removal of two sections of my small bowel ( which had died ). Since then I have been in constant pain, unable to sit or stand without pain and lower back pain. I know my surgeon used a large mesh patch, but I don’t know what kind. Rest assured, I will find out.
My heart goes out to everyone experiencing this kind of pain because I know that people look at you like you’re crazy when you try to describe it.

I have had pain lately in my right groin area that made it difficult to walk upstairs with associated pain in groin, hip and down my legs. I have gone through MRI’s, injections, therapy, and finally spinal surgery of which none of them have relieved the pain in my inguinal area, hip and leg. As I was laying on my back this morning, 3 weeks after surgery and feeling helpless due to the continued pain, I pressed on the area where the inquinal repair had been done with a mesh in August 1990. The pain was horrible and sharp. I suspect that this may be related to the hernia repair I had 19 years ago. Now I am wondering if the surgery I had on my back was not necessary if the pain I have been having is associated with the nerves (or mesh) in the inguinal area.

A mesh was used to repair a hernia on my right side. i was miserable as soon as the anesthesia wore off. I spend a miserable weekend at home, had to resort to a bed pan because I could not walk to the bathroom without experiencing excruciating pain. At the hospital, I was told there was nothing wrong, I was directed me home – but I refused to go because of the pain. I was hospitalized for 2 1/2 days. The surgeon did not believe I was experiencing the level of pain I had until he saw me trying to walk to the bathroom while in the hospital. Nothing was ever resolved though. Today, I cannot be initimate with my husband without experiencing pain. i can only sleep in a certain position to avoid pain. I have trouble with bowel movements at times due to the pain. I cannot sit, exercise or play with the children like before – without pain. This repair has been nothing but pain. I want the mesh removed but my PCP says that nothing can be done for me.

I had 3 hernias repaired in Feb 2007. (both groins & belly button) I am experiencing occasional burning and discomfort in my right groin. I also have something poking out from my belly button like a toothpick. This can be jolting at times and almost feels like it may peirce through my skin. I thought I might be experiencing ring failure as some patches have been recalled. I returned to the doctor who performed the surgery who is telling me the protrusion at my bellly button is a stitch. He says he can remove and install a “softer” patch. Who wants to go through all that again? I am trying to determine exactly which patches were used. The doc says they were Bard Ventralex patches. To be continued……

His intestines adhered to the mesh patch causing a blockage. They HOPE it won’t happen again. I’m not even believing this. He is in so much pain and discomfort from this fix up surgery. His symptoms were pain in his side and then throwing up for 5 days (we thought he had a stomach virus) and unable to have bowel movement. When he went to the doctor on Tuesday they admitted him into the hospital that night and operated on Thursday. His recovery is not going well at all. He still can’t hold food down. Well I am so thrilled they wanted to avoid the first site; and my question is it possible the DR. could see what the mesh was doing to me and didn’t really want to tell me. How would You feel telling Your Wife Oh it feel’s So Good but Baby it Feel’s so very bad it’s not even funny. I am a very fortunate man and have a very Understanding wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a left inguinal hernia repair patch put in June 2009, the pain isnt bad but I get pulling feeling in my stomach, just doesnt feel like this is going to work and I want it removed but dont know what to do. I get prickly sensations and pulling on my veins. I had no problems with a right repair with no mesh 15 years ago. This doctor gave me bad advice on the mesh I think, he said at my age, 48, that it was less likely to reoccur. I dont know if I should contact a lawyer or new doctor. Also I had an incision to remove a suture knot that was protuding into my skin and there is another one still, that lasted a half an hour while he dug at me while I was awake. I definitely think this decision about the patch has changed my life forever.

I am in the same boat. I now know that there is no hope. I have just had my third surgery to repair what was messed up to begin with. It will never end.
I had a drainage tube break in half which lead to months of non-healing, infection and then hernia. Two attempts with mesh, the first one failed after 3 weeks, the second one failed after 3 months. In both cases, the mesh had “folded over” and bowel had stuck to it. The third attempt was to remove the mesh from the previous attempts (almost got all of it out) and then used bovine collagen to cause scarring to support it. The doctor, however, decided he was God and transplanted my bellybutton along with it. Why? Who the H___ knows. So, now I start over with the belly button site – not healing, open wound, drainage, infection, abscess. And he never told me that the amount of scar tissue formation would be so great that I would have lumps from IT. God save us from doctors.
And now – pain, pain, pain. Swelling, bloating, bowel problems, etc, etc. And the medical communities answer to why I have pain? Because of scarring. My God! That is what they were causing so in my mind, they had to know this would happen!
There are some things that I have learned –
First, when they use a mesh patch, they don’t close the openeing that allows the bowel through. They just “patch” it over with the mesh. From what I understand, they don’t even try to pull the edges of it together. Imagine if we repaired clothes or upholstery in that manner. The stress continues and it just tears more past the repair.
Second, anytime that some foreign substance is placed inside of you, you will have a reaction to it. That is in fact one of the ways that the mesh works. It stimulates the body to produce scar tissue. The scar tissue is supposed to provide the support. The mesh never dissolves, however, so the inflammation continues on.
I don’t know the answers but I am definitely intimate with the problem.

I had a giant paraesphogical hernia repair done by laproscopy on May 6, 2009. I don’t know if they inserted mesh or not, but the whole thing ruptured and I nearly died and had to have massive invasive surgery to put my stomach back on August 1st. I don’t know if I have mesh inserted during either procedures. However, I do know of the excruiating pain that I was in and the risk of near dying. The second surgeon didn’t comment on the first surgeon’s work, (since it was the same hospital) but implied the first surgery wasn’t the way to go for this type of surgery.

How do I find out if I should join this class action suit.

I have had two surgeries to repair a ventral hernia. I’m not sure what mesh was used, but the large mesh from the second surgery has now come undone on one side. It has folded back on itself and adhered to my liver. I have been suffering from severe pain in the area and now have to have surgery in 2 weeks to try to have it removed from my liver. However, although I have a very experience and good surgeon, he has never seen nor done anything like this. I’m pretty nervous.

My daughter had a hernia repair in 1993 at age 2. I do not know what material was used. She experienced no trouble immediately following the procedure. However, years later (maybe when she was around 10, she began having abdominal pains. Many trips and tests by doctors could find no explanation. She had to be homeschooled for half a year. I understand the cases are from 2000 on but I would like to rest my concerns about this.

I am writing on behalf of my father. My dad had a hernia surgery in 2007 or 2008. Soon after his surgery he started experiencing what he called a “poking” sensation. He had to sit, bend and walk in a certain way. He did bring this issue up w/ his physician and the physicians reply was more/less it will subside or it is normal. On two separate occasions dad has brought this to the physicians attention and he got the same reply. Here it is 2011 and his pain has increased dramatically from the initial “poke” sensation. He complains of severe abdominal pain, swelling and tenderness of the scrotum and nausea.
I have just recently discovered that there was a recall on certain repair meshes and advised my father to get to the hospital or physicians office ASAP and retrieve his medical records, to see if he was able to find out which brand of mesh was used for his hernia. I also told him that while he was at the hospital to be evaluated by the ER staff at least to see if he possibly has any further damage. Dad unfortunately does not have medical insurance and he will not be seen until it is too late.
Will his medical records indicate the brand/type of “mesh” used for his procedure? If not, how do we find this important info out?

In October 2005, I had a ventral hernia fixed with a bard mesh match with staples or tacks. Within 3 weeks I had a very small bulge above my scar. The last few years I have a large round bulge that starts in the middle of my scar and extends a couple of inches above. I am uncomfortable all the time. It feels like there is pressure and the bulge goes right up to my ribs. It feels like I can feel the staples or tacks on the top of my rib. I have trouble eating. The food gets stuck where the bulge is. Also, if I get constipated, I really feel a lot of pressure and my heart beats funny. I went back to the doctor and had a catscan and he told me he didn’t see anything and that the mesh can move. Everyone can see my large bulge even through my clothes. I don’t trust what my doctor is telling me. Can my mesh migrate to a different spot and does anybody know what kind of doctor I should see.

I had a hernia repair with mesh in 8/2009 I also had a hysterectory performed and a bladdar sling. at the same time two different surgeons. After a few days I got an infection in the wound and it had to be opened to drain and was given antibiotics. The wound infection cleared up but the incision would not close. I had a whole in my stomach the size of a fist. I was on a wound vac for weeks this did not work. Then they tried Max Orb for a couple of months this did not work. In 12/2009 I had to go back into the hospital to have the mesh removed. And then the wound finally healed. I want to know if this has happened to any one else. I am now dealing with bladdar infections and wondering if it is the sling they did my bladdar lift with.

I had the composix mesh implanted in october of 06 for an insiginal hernia. In october of 2011 I had a knot come up in the same spot. I thought it was another hernia and I made an appointment with a surgeon to check it out the appointment was made for november 9th. At the end of october the pain was so great my wife drove me to the emergency room at a hospital that we trust 75 miles away. The surgeon who checked me out lanced the site were I was haveing the most pain and it drained some nasty smelling greenish brown liquid. He ran some tests and said I would have to have surgery. Because I take asperin and plavix I had to wait till they thought it was safe. After being on pain medicine and antibiotics for 5 days they did what they called the plavix test and said it would be ok to do the surgery. I had 2 surgeons working on me for 4 hours and they had to stop because my body could not take any more. They told my wife that I had a massive infection, a tare in my bowel, with stools floating around. They had to do a colon resection, remove infected tissue and infected muscle. Later that night after surgery I had a bleed and had to have 4 units of blood. I stayed in the hospital for another week with the site draining then went home. My wife had to take off work to tend to my needs. A week later I saw the doctor he removed the staples and said that the site would continue to drain through the incission that I had several clotts all along it and it would drain. The incission site had several open spots and even today I still have one spot that has not fully closed.

I’ve had two inguinal repairs, in 2005 and 2010. The first was a Kugel mesh and has with the help of hydrocodone pushed down on my abdominal wall, at times making it hard to keep down food and is gripping on to where it was implanted. It is rock hard and doesn’t cause me that much pain.

However the Prolene mesh implanted in 2010 has wreaked havoc on my life. I feel pain from passing gas, sexual activity, urinating and sitting down. I feel light-headed after sex as well. My right side distended along with my abdomen, red spots are popping up on my skin frequently and no matter how much weight I lose, my stomach seems like I’m gaining more. Sometimes it’s hard to burp, after sex and it feels like both sides seize up, making it difficult to pass gas, etc.

I had a ventral hernia repair with mesh, (laparoscopic) and, open umbilical repair. Proline tacks were used, they are supposrdly going to resolve within a a years time.Simultaniously. Upon return home, I spent my first few nights sleep in a recliner. As I was recovering, I started to sleep in the bed. I found it difficult to lay down without experiencing tremendous pain in my spine. I saw my surgeons assistant, whom advised me to seek the help of a neurologist. My surgeon told me to go to the er. The er gave me a full makeup and x- rays and found nothing. I was given steroids and was told I was havingmuscle spasms. I came home and somewhat resumed normal sleeping habits in a bed, with some relief of back discomfort and pain. About six weeks later, when I would lay down in the resting position to go to sleep, my pelvic region, and bladder area began and continued to hurt and felt like a burning, and I could not bear to wear any thing tight. My very lower back hurt aswell. For about five mornings in a row I would awaken at around fouram with a burning, warm sensation near my badder. I would urinate and experience pain Iin the bladder area for two+hours, with an urgency to urinate, until I would urinate again. After 5 days, I drove mysrlf to the er, complaining of lower abdominal pain. I let the doctor know that my bladder was always feeling full. He treated me with an antibiotic and suggested that I have an early uti. I followed up with my primary who let me know that the urine culture result was negative for a uti. He ordered a ct, and the impression was that the ventral hernia was similar to the pre surgical ct. He sugessted that the pain I was having was due to the surgery, and, for me to go to the surgeons office. My surgeon referred me to a eurologist, who, in his opinion suggests there is nothing wrong internally, and that the ventral hernia is still there there. He tells me to go back to thr surgeon. Now, a few days later I am in much discomfort and pain, I schedule with a neurologist, who denies the ” reflex symathetic dystrophy” Diagnosis given by my surgeons on call surgeon, and suggests I have pudendial neuropathy. Sli am in pain when I stand, sit, lay flat or on my side. I, continuing to follow treatment. I am in chronic pain. And interested in any suggerstions. I’m saddenned by my condition.:).

Wow, my mother had surgery about 8yrs ago and she was so sick and in so much pain. And not one Dr. that she went to could figuare out why. Then they just put her on pain meds and made out like it would pass. She was in and out of ER they.all treated her as if she was crazy or just trying to get more pills. Well the pain pills didnt even help. Well 6 years after she had a tummy tuck. And her incision from that wadnt healed all the way. The infection had filled her stomach up and had Nowhere else to go it opened that incision and all this puss and infection started Coming out. Then they finally found out what it was. They had to cut a huge hole in her and let it drain. She was laid up all Last summer then once they got it under control they had to go in and pretty much rip this stuff out of her it had grown into her organs. So yes i do believe my mother deserves a shit load of pay back for what shes been through. She had just went through having cancer. Shes now in remission but she was so sick from kemo. Then this. It drove her into a deep depressed state were she still is. That shes prayed to die. And thought bout taking her own life. I know u all understand herand what shes been through. 10 years of her life shes been sick and in pain. I would do anything even change places with her just for her to have a whole yr not feeling like this. So she could enjoy her life again and go to beach or just to even go for a walk down the road.

I tripped and fell against a 90 degree sharp angle desk at work in 2009. The initial diagnosis was – no problem. Several days later, I received a call from the overview doctor – indicating that I needed to have hernia surgery ASAP. (I had a substantial ‘bulge’ at the injury sight). I of course followed the doctors advice, scheduled the surgery, and did as I was instructed – this was all very new and unknown to me.
I did a follow-up appointment with the surgery doctor (MY request) due to discomfort and pain. The doctor said “everything is AOK – give it some more time” – for the healing process.
Several weeks later, in the same city (Florida), I scheduled an appointment with another doctor for a second opinion – I was still in pain. The second doctor said to give it more time – OR – I could do “more surgery – ‘very risky’ – or pain shots from ‘now on’ – or just live with it” – or just give it “more time”.
I drove to Oregon, moving out of Florida. The first doctor I visited in Oregon was for a general check-up, Verterans Administration. During the appointment, I asked the doctor to check the ‘hernia patch’ site for any issues. It was still giving me some discomfort and pain. The doctor said everything “looked OK”.
ALL doctors that I have visited since the surgery in Florida have been advised that this patch has given – and is still giving me pain and discomfort!!!!!!! I am not doing any physical activity of any fashion- (heavey lifting, jogging, pushing, pulling, sit-ups) – that would lead someone to think that I am intentionally creating the ‘reason’ for this nightmare.
All the doctors – all – that I have spoken to about this patch have said the same thing – “Everything looks fine”.
My actions speak louder than words – I am still in pain!
I have been following the reports, the stories, the ‘updates’, etc. online, regarding the “Composix patch” for over four years now. I know something is not proper with this patch.
When I have called for ‘legal advice’, or just – ‘what should I do?’ – virtually all attorneys offices have told me the same thing – the surgery dates that I am refering too are not covered under the recall – although “many compaints” are comming in specific to the Composix patch – the one I had implanted.
Do not let this go. Seek professional help on this issue!
    It is important, very important.
‘Pain shots’, or ignoring this can lead to other problems.

PHS mesh….about a month after the surgery i started getting infections and a lot of stinging swelling going on around the cut area so i went back to the doctor and he cut and drained the infection and i ask him why is this happening could it be from the… mesh.. he said know it was common so time went on and i was still having all of these problems i would go back to him and he would say i don’t know why this is happening but it’s not from the… mesh…on 11/13/2012 i started having a lot of swelling and burning stinging going on even worst than what it has been from the beggening i went to a different surgeon there was a collection of fluid in the left scrotal sack i thought i was going to bust open it was so bad he had to do surgery and leave the wound open it took up to a month to heal my wife had to change the packing 2 times a day and pack it full of medicine strips i ask what was causing this he said it must be the mesh ‘iT wasn’t long after the left side the right side did the same thing i ended up back in the hospital and had to have surgery on the right side plus ended up having… MSA….i ask the surgeon again if he thought it was the mesh causing my problems and he said he didn’t know what else it could be it had to be the ….mesh….on 1/17/2014 i had to go to another hernia specialist she found abdominal pain chronic left and right lower quadrant she said the PHS mesh was ….DIGGING INTO THE NERVES..and the only thing she can do is give me shot’s the mesh should have came out when i first went back to the doctor’ but because it wasn’t it can’t be taken out now it’s to big of risk .so now when i want to walk my dog up the street i start swelling and burning and stinging so bad i have to sit down and even worst than then before a man should not have to live like this it’s not right..

I had a right inguinal hernia repaired in 2002. I never got better after surgery. Had another surgery in 2003, recurring hernia, I was so worse after that one. I have been to pain clinics, endured shots in that area just to find out when I went to the university of illinois that I had infections and inflammation , I was on crutches at that time I couldn’t step on that leg. Had a surgery to get all of it out and the surgeon said the mesh hardened up and it was like a cheese grater in there. Some of the mesh had to be left in as it attached itself to the arteries and tendons and well everything that surrounded that area. I have had another surgery for recurring hernia, total of four so far. When I bend over and then take a step my leg gives out and I’m constantly falling. The pain keeps me up all night, I can’t sleep, walk, sit. The pain is constant. I have had so many injections. Nothing helps. I searched for years for people like me, this is the first time this website ever came up. Every 6 months or so I go to the gov. Recall site I never see anything about hernia mesh. And now I know I’m not the only one. My life sucks, I can’t do anything. When I do make plans to go out to dinner or when I have to go to the grocery store I know it will just cause even more pain. I can’t even touch that spot it’s so sensitive. And I always look like I have a huge hernia there, it’s always swollen.

I had the mesh implant on June 30, 2010.

It has ruined my life. I have worked my entire life and can no longer work. I am in chronic pain, in my left abdomen: stabbing shooting pain, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, nerve pain, and am unable to walk correctly.
My surgeon told me it was not the mesh, and basically blew me off. He no longer does hernia repairs, only breast reconstruction.

I have gone to so many doctors and neurologists, and everyone is afraid to do anything.

I just found one doctor that might be able to help me.
He said he has been successful at removing mesh.

I am trying to make a decision about the surgery, because I fear I may be worse than I am now…but, am seriously considering it.

I even filed a report with the FDA and sent them supporting paper work, but they said there was not enough scientific documentation.

I call it the “Flesh eating Mesh”

If anyone has any information on doctors who have successfully removed mesh, please let me know.

    Good luck to all.

To the readers, hello my name is Edward and lime all of u, I too had surgery to repair a hernia. This is my 4th hernia repair. One on my groin, and the other 3 on my belly. My first hernia on my stomach was performed about 2 years ago. Went to a specialist, when I had medical insurance. He repaired my embilical hernia the first time. About a year later I was at work and started to feel nauseous. Was wondering why I was having excruciating pain. Felt like I was being stabbed multiple times. Since I was a contractor I lost my medical insurance because the company down sized, so I had to apply for medicaid. Anyways went back to the same doctor who performed the lastime embilical hernia only to be told that he BELIEVES, not he knows, but he believes that the stitching that he put in the first time ripped. So that he had to go back in and repair it a second time, but this time he was putting in a piece of mesh. Did the operation. Had that operation in Feb of this year. About 4 months after surgery, I developed a ball size lump above my operation site. It didn’t hurt any, but made my wife nervous because it didn’t look right. Made another appointment to see the same doctor again. Was sent to get an MRI, done. My results showed that the mesh that was put had shifted from its original site thus causing the bulge. The only thing that my doctor was able to tell me was that he was sorry, but these things happen. Wow so much for doctor patient compasion. I had to repeat another operation on 8/5/2014. I know I just had surgery, but to me it doesn’t feel right. Having pain near the operation sight, not on it but near it towards my right side of my stomach, feeling light headed, uforia, my bowel movement have decreased, and a lot of pain still. Tried calling my doctor to see if that’s normal considering I just had surgery, but he’s on vacation and his PA, is telling me that what I’m feeling is normal. This is not normal. I didn’t feel this way after my 1st surgery. Only since I had this mesh put in me that I had been having so many complications. Oh yeah, when I had this last operation I was told that there were 3 other hernias behind this last one that was repaired. I’m thinking maybe I’m developing an infection that’s causing the light heading Ness/ dizzy spells.

I had my first hernia, umbilical i was told, repaired with marked mesh in Jul of 2000. Two years later the hernia was protruding the mesh and getting tangled with my bowels and intestines. It was repaired with same day surgery just like the first time. Eight years went by and the hernia had to be repaired again. This time I spent 5 days in the hospital and my belly button had been removed and the repair was quite a bit more extensive. The pain and suffering I went through then doesn’t compare to living with the fear of having it happen again.

I’m a 38 year old man and was certainly injured by mesh. I have not been able to get anyone else to lessen to me. I truly know that the mesh erosion was severe enough for me to say in surgery for 15 hours. I know that if the right lawyer would look into this they could find what they need in my medical records. It was bard cruralsoft mesh small V shape. 6×7 cm. So hopefully this law firm can help

My husband Patrick has had endless surgeries because of Marlex polypropylene mesh, one revision surgery led to a stroke in 2011. Since then 3 more surgeries to remove old mesh, which was synthetic. Every problem from A to Z. They say there’s no litigation for Marlex Mesh. I don’t understand why. Can anyone out there refer us to an attorney. Thank you very much

I had my right inguinal hernia surgery in 2013 of February. Since the surgery I have had complications still with the hernia. I have had severe pelvic pain an also pain during intercourse. I went to the hospital numerous times complaining about my hernia and also to my surgeon. I was told that nothing was wrong, but given naproxen. I have two kids and with my second pregnancy, my hernia caused me so much pain where it would swell up or I would have a tingling burning sensation where I was cut. It hurts going to the bathroom at times where I have sharp pains. Where I work, if I do too much walking or lifting, I start to hurt really bad. Now that I’m pregnant again, im experiencing more pain.

I had a left inguinal hernia repair done on april 1,2015. The surgeon used a 3DMax left large patch manufactured by bard/davol.Also they used a sorbafix fixation system.Since the surgery I have been in unbearable pain. I used to be very fit and athletic always working out and playing with my kids and working on the house etc. I also use to work 75 to 80 hours a week in the oilfield. Since the surgery I have not been able to do any of those things. I cant even pick my kids up or push them around playing like we used to. I have been unable to work cause sitting or standing lifting courching doing all of these things puts me in pain that even pain pills will not take away. The pain is 24/7 pain pills only dull it enough to walk with a limp and not cry. When I talk to the doctors I can never get a straight or even a good enough answer as why im in so much pain and why my abdomin is constantly swelling. I cant even have sex with my wife without buckling over in pain after.. Its been almost a year now and i cant take it anymore. My family is suffering because im not able to work I even had to swallow my pride and start a go fund me account to get help which im not having any luck there. I need help. I NEED ANSWERS. and most important I NEED OUT OF THIS HELL OF PAIN. and to return to a normal life where i can take care of my family. Please some info or help and prayers will be greatly appriciated.

2012 May – Right inguinal hernia repair. Mesh and plug. Chronic pain since. Has affected relationships and is depressing, in addition to painful at times. I want the mesh out. I’ve wanted it out since the day after it went in. The doctor said it was nothing and would go away. She said that at the 6 week and 6 months follow-up appointments. She said that she didn’t understand the pain I had because she doesn’t have the parts I have down there. I was summarily dismissed. I want it out of me.

I had a hernia mesh implant repair and the doctor used a patch don’t know which one, but its been quite a while 8 years or so and the last year i have been experiencing really weird things. I am over weight so at my hernia it kind of folds over (gets sweaty) and my belly button never looked right since the surgery.

Well, I am itching there sooooooo bad and have tiny bites all inside the belly button with puss ooozing out and it lines the creases of my belly button and smells just awful. I clean it every day, but I am a little worried because for a few years now my abdomen has become distended and clothing that fit me great once, no longer can button at the waist everywhere else it fits fine. AND I can feel something stickout out but not pierce my skin (my guess its the mesh) and it pokes as a sharp jagged edge feeling and hurts me at times. It also can cause a stabbing pain burning pain, straight through my back and I have to sit down.

Many times,, it.causes me to become immobile at the point of impact were I have to move out of that position because it is so uncomfortable.

You know, my genius old boyfriend at the time questioned the doctor before operating addressing this very issue and the doctor became angry just by his questions because he knew a lot about this implant and had read about the bad results. He told me NOT to get it done, to find another way. I sure wish I would have listened to him.

Back then, I trusted Doctors, now I know better. I research everything because doctors never have to go back to school that is why they send us to specialists most of whom I could and do educate about health they have no clue about. With the exception of Olive View Hospital in Sylmar, CA (believe it or not) I haven’t met one doctor, veterinarian, health professional, who really knows their field.

If this is going to be a lawsuit I want in but only if the actual injured parties receive a fair settlement as typically with class action suits, the attorneys take the lions share of the settlement.

I’ve also had 10 operations to my hands and have only 20% use of both hands and it sucks, but until I became my own advocate and looked over everything with a fine tooth comb checking google, reading, etc, It was then.,, I began to realize, even when I spoke of latest technology etc. again 97 percent of doctors didn’t have a clue, and they either are hard core on their knowledge or they go with mine and its then I get treated appropriately. BE YOU OWN ADVOCATE DO NOT TRUST THIS LIFE THREATENING ISSUE to someone else’s opinion. You’ll die that way.

In 2000-2001 a doctor in Boston repaired an abdominal ventral hernia using mesh – kind unknown.
For many years following this surgery, I suffered from nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and bowel issues. I had colonoscopies and doctor visits with no answers as to why.
In 2009 I developed two additional abdominal hernias and required surgery.
This surgery revealed that the prior surgery’s mesh had become imbedded in my intestines – this was what had been causing all the years of suffering.
The surgeon did his best to remove the imbedded mesh, but was unable to get all of it out.
The surgeon did a full abdominal mesh attached by 100 titanium screws.
Fortunately, so far I have had no issues with this procedure, but I suffered for years from the first surgery and still have some mesh in my intestines so who knows if I will have complications at some time in the future.

I had my first surgery in 2005 last in 2011. I had open hernia surgery and with the robot. Had at least 2 surgeries a year, abscessed that I ended up wearing a wound vac for longer than normal(still have hard scar, that continues to hurt). Still have pain that is always there, my bowel is attached to my abdomen. Was told by another surgeon that if I ever have to have any kind of abdomen surgery, better be sure is good can handle all complications do from mesh.
