i have had five henia sergeries with mesh ,the fist in 2000 and the last in 2007.but thats not the end,i have herniated again.two of my sergeries were emergencies both times i was close to deth.at one period between april 2002 and aug.2003 i had an infection with a drain tube in my abdomin.i have to many akes and pains to count not to mention my fisical apearance.im a farmer and have had to sell my cattle ,my life sucks!!!

i had the patch put in 2005, for two years i suffered miserably, i found a doctor that would work on me due to the size of the hernia that redeveloped (small watermelon), after surgery i found out the patch was broke in 14 pieces, all of it could not be removed, i still have some in me, my whole transverse colon, large intestine and small intestine were living in the hernia, i had adheadsions and infection and a few other things, with the second surgery i was implanted with bovine and donor material, the infection took off, I had a drain tube in me for two moths was on all kinds of antibiotics, no help, i wound up back in the hospital with staph, sepsis, septic shock, abcess (huge) and a few other things, i had sugery agian, lived in the hospital for awhile on antibiotic treatment, then got sent home for an additional two months living on a PIC line and having anurse come twice a day everyday to administer antibitiocs. after removel of the PIC line i continued more antibitotics for 2 months. i had to have the muscels in my sides cut nd drawn around front to close the hole in me, i can not have a patch ever again. i have more issues still today but my doctor says it is too risky to go back in again, i currently have a new hernia, inflamation pouches and i carry a infection that flares up at will, not to mention the physical looking side effects, i still have bowel trouble after the bowel ressection. life is not great. my doctors think i am lucky to of survived all the infections they said we had to pull the big guns out on you, you shoud of died.

August 17,2006 I had two hernia’s repaired with Kugel mesh patches. The pain started 3 days after surgery and has only gotten worse. The patch in my groin is against the nerve in my right leg and right testicle. The pain is being masked by pain managment 150 mg. Lyrica daily and injections to burn the nerve in my leg. Returning to the original surgeon gave me no hope. If I fail to take the regiment of Lyrica the pain is debilitating, nausea, sharp abdomial pain, leg pain, right testicle pains, pain in stomach area after light meals.Total fatigue after a short 4 hour light day of work. All these complaints and the surgeon is not concerned enough to fullfil obligations.

After 3 surgeries, where my intestine adhered to the patch and cause severe pain. Now the Kugel Mesh Patch has attached itself to my Liver. Which can not be removed. Due to severe bleeding.

I also have a fistuala, resulting from a large mesh repair…and am facing surgery to remove it.

I’m told the surgery will be very long, and very dangerous, and most likely done over 2-3 surgeries. NO ONE has mentioned this problem with this mesh that I had put in in 2000, in fact, leading me to believe that this was just ‘to be expected’ from this mesh surgery…

I had a surgery in 6/04 – infection resulted in mesh removal in 12/04. I am now facing a very serious surgery to remove some of the mesh that was left in from the removal. Draining fistula and now will have to have animal byproduct mesh put in and bowel resection.
