After being placed on Nuvaring.. I began extreme bleeding which just "gushed" out of me initially. Then moved onto almost softball sized blood clots. This continued for almost 3 days until I was so deeply weakened and almost unable to function. I was so exhausted and weak that by the time I went to my OB/GYN I was advised to go straight to the hospital (my 17 yr old Daughter who had to drive me due to my weakened state to see my OB/GYN) past out in their offices due to being scared to death that I may die. I went to the hospital and subsequently had to undergo 3 blood transfusions, under ultrasound to see if there was any underlying issue,, nothing was found by the ultrasound. After remaining in the hospital for 3 days and finally undergoing a DNC and being placed on increased medication to try to reduce the remaining bleeding to a minimum until a radical hysterectomy could be performed, (my blood count had to be increased to a "safe" level) for the surgery to be completed. This was such a traumatic time for not only myself but for my 5 children whom I am a single mother to. A FULL disclosure should be explained as to the FULL side effects and just how many people who have truthfully experienced these effects. I have now had to undergo surgery that I never thought I would have to have had at 43 yrs of age (at the time), have had to endure the emotional symptoms of menopause early, scared my children to death for fear of losing me, have medical bills that I never anticipated! Have bill collectors calling to receive payment for something I cannot pay, for something unforseen. The manufacturer of this product should be held accountable for their failure to represent the truth..

I was on the Nuva ring for 2 years, then discontinued it for a year, and in May went back on it. 3 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a DVT, and was then informed that because I have a specific genetic factor (H5), I am 5-7% more likely to get a DVT. However, because I am H5 Positive combined with the Nuva Ring, it increased the likeliness to 50-70% more likely to get a blood clot. This should have been explained to me by my OB rather than in the Emergency Room.
