The popular denture adhesives Poligrip and Fixodent could cause zinc poisoning, neuropathy and other debilitating injuries. The lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are reviewing potential denture adhesive lawsuits for individuals who have experienced problems with Poligrip, Fixodent and other similar products.

>>REQUEST A FIXODENT OR POLIGRIP LAWSUIT EVALUATION

Poligrip and Fixodent problems can cause elevated levels of zinc in the blood and reduced levels of copper, potentially resulting in:

  • Zinc Poisoning
  • Myelopathy
  • Neuropathy
  • Neutropenia or Pancytopenia
  • Bone Marrow Failure
  • Anemia
  • Central Nervous System Defecits
  • Other Neuorlogic Injury

Nearly 35 million people in the United States wear dentures and many of the widely used denture adhesives contain zinc. However, they do not contain adequate warnings about the potential risks of these products may pose.

If a denture wearer uses large amounts of the adhesive, they could receive too much zinc, which can result in a lowering of copper and potentially serious neurological issues.

Symptoms of Fixodent or Poligrip problems could include:

  • Paralysis
  • Numbness
  • Loss of Sensation
  • Tingling in the Hands or Feet
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Unexplained Pain

The zinc poisoning caused by Poligrip and Fixodent can cause permanent injury if it is not diagnosed early and treated.

POLIGRIP AND FIXODENT LAWSUITS

The Poligrip and Fixodent lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are investigating potential claims on behalf of individuals who have been diagnosed with zinc poisoning or suffered from other neuropathy problems that may have been caused by the denture adhesives.

If you, a friend or family member have suffered from Poligrip or Fixodent side effects, financial compensation may be available through a denture adhesive lawsuit. To have a potential case reviewed by our lawyers, request a free consultation and claim evaluation.

I have been using fixodent/polygirp for about three years. I started having pains in my neck, hands and feet. I have had 2 MRI s, and still have no clue what is going on. My fingers get weak, I cant’ stand sometimes. What is going on. I am currently seeing a neurologist. The medical bills are piling up and I stay in pain.
I have lost my ability to balance. I have no reflex in my feet. My fingers are numb and pain in the neck.
I have a partical top plate and a particale bottom plate. I am using this stuff two or three times a day.

I have used Fixodent generously every since I first got my dentures about ten years ago. I have developed neuropathy in my feet, legs and hands and a tingling in my shoulders, arms and face (recently). I am diabetic and assumed this was expected, but now I don’t know. I have had pancreatitis, back pain, and other “pains” at a level of 7-10 every day. I can’t walk over 30 feet without hurting and am unable to stand more than ten minutes at a time. I walk stooped over, because it hurst too much to stand up straight.

I have been wearing an upper denture now for 19 yrs, due to an accident when I was young. I was diagnosed with Small fiber lower extremity Neuropathy. The casue unknown; was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1999 and I now wonder if it is because of the Fixodent and PoliGrip I have been using. I’d be very interrested in seeing where this could go. I wear my upper denture 23 hrs a day every day for 19yrs.

  • Lyricist Lady says:

I started using Fixodent and Polygrip denture cream for over 20 years
my mom died in 1998, she was also a very heavy user and she introduced me to these above denture creams. I wish I had a nickle for every tube me and my mom bought. We both had to use it not once, twice not even three times a day, but several times a day. One or two tubes did not even last us for a week.. A few years ago, I even had my dentures relined, but that didn’t help either. I have 3 Neuropathies, high risk for falls, My balance is dangerous. I am practically hospital bedridden at home in my hospital bed. I also have tingleing , numbness and vibrations, even unvoluntary uncontrollable jerks. I am not a diabetic. I am an “Anemic”. I just had my second “Iron Transfusion”. I also have “Optic Neuropathy”., Polyneuropathy, peripheal and Molyneuropathy. I also have more Neurogical issues, but my Neurologist has never been able to diagose me. I am also on pain medication, for I am in chronic and severe pain 24 / 7. I spend more time in the hospital then I spend at home. When I saw the ad on TV, I couldn’t believe it, it was like you were describing me, my illnesses and my health issues. I also wonder if this is what caused many of my mom’s problems as well, cause she is the one who introduced me to fixodent and polygrip denture cream, before I started using these two, I used the powder which started me choking, so I went to Fixodent and Polygrip denture creams. I have had many labs done, but I don’t think I have ever been tested for Zink or Copper though. I have seen many ads about this “Potential Law Suit”, a lot of them are “out of State”, I was pleased to see you are local in Baltimore, MD.

has anyone had kidney stones and uti . i have been using poligrip for approx 15 years. my teeth do not fit properly and the only way the dentist could make it work was an implant , which i could not afford. the only way i have been able to keep my plates in was to use poligrip which i have done liberally for several years, otherwise they will not stay in. i just recently found out about this toxic zinc and lack of copper. i have numb feet. uti and kidney stones, burning patches, anueurysm in left eye(limited sight) tia’s . my doctor was reculant to do the blood test because she had not heard of this problem. i finally got it done but do not have the results back yet. scared to death.

I started using fixodent about a year ago when i received my upper plate. It seems like when I would use it I would lose my appetite, and sometimes get so nauseated it was dibilitating. Lately my reactions have gotten worse, and today I started wondering if it could be from the adhesive. Today I was on the interstate, and had to pull over to get the plate out of my mouth. I was gagging, and choking. About 15 minutes later I coughed up what appeared to be the adhesive, as it had ran down my throat. I also suffer harshly the last year from forgetfulness, lack of energy, chronic bronchitus, nausea, depression, bad headaches, tmj, and Im almost blind in the left eye. Over the last year my sight has rapidly gone. Now Im curious if it could be from this.

I have been using poligrip and/or fixodent for about 6 months. shortly after I started use of the products I experienced severe pain in my leg. I have swelling, tingling, numbness and redness in my leg. Some mornings I can bearly walk because my feet hurt so bad. My hands swell and I have tingling in my lower arms as well. I am presently seeing an inter-medical doctor who thought it was in the bone but after CT’s and xrays, he thought maybe fibromilga, however test doesn’t fully support that either. I know I have not used the procuct(s) for very long but I didn’t have any of these problems prior to the use of these products and I am to young to be going though these unexplainable health problems.

I have been using Fixodent for the past five years. I ended up using Fixodent because it actually WORKS. However, I have so many of the symptoms described for Zinc Poisoning that I am very concerned. I’m always exhausted – lethargic. I have unexplained numbness and tingling in my legs and feet. I have lower back pain that is unexplainable. I get chills when everyone else is sweating. The worst symptom is numbness in my genital area – resulting in unsatisfactory sexual relations. My doctor has been a real downer – telling me if I just quit smoking these symptoms will clear up! I’ve not been convinced. I am only 51 years old and feel that I am too young to be experiencing all of these problems. How do I get tested for this condition? Must I go to a neurologist?

Well I have had dentures for over 25 years, my tops are good but when I got my lowers 12 years ago within three years of using fixodent things started going bad. Here are the symptoms that I am experiencing.
    1. Severe muscle pain
    2. Severe muscle spasms
    3. Twitching of muscles starting with feet then to calves then to neck then to my thighs and stomach, What use to be perfect eyesite is no terrible. I am getting stronger reading glasses every 6 months.
    4. The pain in my left side is something I have experienced the longest and have had upper and lower GI’s with one result saying I need to see a specialist because the radiolist said it could be cancer. The specialist looked at the test felt my stomach and said nothing was wrong.
    5. I have seen a neurologist, a vascular surgeon and I do have Barretts asphogus and PAD, and cartatoid artries that are 60% blocked.
I was told recently that I needed to be on Nurotin for the pain and they had me up to 1200mgs a day and it made me a zombie, I was accussed at work for being drnk and I forgot things alot, now they have me on blood thinners and muscle relaxers, I also take Previcd for my stomach pain. I can’t even walk in the mall or up the street with out having to stop and rest. I have been told by three doctors that they may never know what causes the pain and the spasms. The spasms are so strong that it can knock me to the floor and I get severe brusing from them.

The doctors will not give me anything for pain because that is not the formalary way to treat this even though they don’t know what is wrong. They also suggest that it is all in my head. I have had not one doctor even look at my legs. there is severe discoloration at the back of my calves and broken blood vessels in the original spot where the muslce spasms started and continue in the severity.

I just emailed my doctor to see if she would do a blood test for Zinc/copper we will see what she says. And what the results say if this is something she is willing to do.

This all stated around the last 7 years and I have been using fixodent for the last 10 years.

I have been utilizing Super Poligrip and sometimes Fixodent since aproxamately 2004. I purchase at least four of these products each month, to hold my dentures.
I’m experiencing pins and needles in my feet, weakness in my right hand, back pain, neck pain, headaches, and numbness in my left thigh. Muscle cramps in hip and back. I’ve experienced off and on dizziness, and I already fight enemia so hearing it affects enemia really has me worried. My doctors over the years have not discovered the problem. I believed it could be my other medications or the beginning of diabetes but, now I am wondering since I’ve utilized so much denture cream over the years if I’ve been experiencing zinc poisoning off and on. I’ve worn my dentures night and day, and have to redo them often more than once a day.

This is an outrage that an American business would know that their product could pose a danger and not care about anything more than their profits! And with such profits, maybe they didn’t worry since the profit margin would out weigh the determined costs of any lawsuits they ended up with! They remind me of some past car manufacturer’s like the “Pinto”! If they have put profit over safety, they need to be brought to task not, just be allowed to walk away with a warning and a slap on the wrist! I never wore dentures before 2004 and I have a full set. I am on a fixed income and now I don’t have the ommediate funds to pay for a new set so, I am stuck until I can save up and in this economy and no dentist aid, I’m stuck with being possibly poisoned for a while yet, just to eat and do my volunteer work. I use as little as possible yet, nothing else is affordable for me. The companies need to change their recipe to make it safe and non-toxic or something for people like me.

    Hi you all,

Thought I’d come back after my message and tell you all to hang in there. I guess someone is trying to investigate our issues with the denture cream, as they attempted to contact me. But, I missed them.

At least someone is listening so take heart! I saw a local add on TV tonight that showed another Lawyer firm investigating too. It means that something is going to end up being done.

I’d like to know where the Food & Drug people were who didn’t check these two companies products? Vitamins and Minerals might be good for the body but, not in huge amounts at any time. People just trust stuff you put in your mouth all the time. You don’t know there is zinc in a bonding agent. You can buy it at your local grocery store.

I would like a lawyer to tell me why these companies could allow it. And, if it is part of their secret recipe-it should still be checked for safety, all the same. How difficult could it be or expensive to put a notice in or on the box, like they just started doing???

It’s like a person can’t trust Big Businesses. Commodities are steady money makers, even in bad times. People have a need that is measurable, daily-weekly-monthly-yearly. Dependable. I think, as a consumer-we should begin taking more notice of things we use, in this way, as to their real safety! Someone has dropped the ball a lot lately. And everyday Americans are being hurt. Who could’ve guessed at the suffering by the use of Denture Cream!
How many seniors and MediCal persons use this stuff; have used it?
The statistics must be staggering. And do we export it?
This is where the profits could be. But, at what cost? I feel like a lab rat!
Well, I know this isn’t for blogging but, I am really angry about this and the potential it has for harm. Yet, I want those of you who are wondering about this, to make companies take notice, that we citizens deserve better than being thier lab rats for profits, at any cost! We have a voice and a vote, Let’s use them to change these companies and the legislation that lets them get away with it.

I’m between doctors. Mine went to another business and left MediCal. But, when I go to this new one, I am going to ask them what I do about this and my symptoms I’m having and see if He/She can tell me more about it. But I took a blood test a while back and no one mentioned a high Zinc level. Does it take a special test? If the doctor wasn’t looking for it, would he find it in a normal test. I don’t mean to scare anyone and I am sorry if I have but, this is just plain wrong.
I would like answers to some of my questions from the companies.

I have mentioned to My Doctors many Times as these symptom’s are almost the same as those of Diabetes. They have conducted Lab Work but to My knowledge have found no signs of Sugar. Also over the past few Month Food has a very bitter taste don’t know if this would be related to the use of these products. Any Info. I could receive on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

this explains why I have had the loss of balance and memory problems that I have had. I had seen drs about it but they could not figure it out either, I got sent from dr to dr to dr to rule out what might have caused the balance problems with no answers. Plus the memory problems have gotten worse. It really explains why I have had some of the symptoms I have been having and could get no answers for.

I can’t remember like i used to i am scared of what is going to happen to me when the doctors are clearly in the dark of what’s going on around them. I am 54 years old and would like to find out what all these crazy feelings are. People don’t understand until they have been in our shoes.

I have used fixodent for 20+ years . I have had so many symptoms over the years . Carpel tunnel ,tendonitis , Degenertive disc disease , Lumbar and cervical , arthritis , fibromyalgia , piriformis syndrome , heart disease , kidney disease , rapid decrease in my eye sight , and in the last few months a neuroligist tested me for neuropathy as my legs and feet , arms and hands were jumping and twitching so bad . I mean I totally could not control them . I could not even hold a fork to eat without dropping it or the phone to talk on it . He put me on topomax and then did some testing . Well the medications helped but the tests showed nothing . But he told me there is a percentage that just does not show up on the test . And that he still believed that is what iswrong with me . The meds worked great and he finally got me to a good level . As time has gone on they are not doing as good . There are times when the jumping and the twitching comes back . But I believe I am at the maximum level . I see him next month . Also for the last 2 years I have been getting headaches that totally knock me off my feet for days . Sometimes The right side of my face gets numb and my eye and ear as well . Then it will go away after a few days , maybe longer but it always comes back but maybe the next time it will be on the left side , or maybe on the right again? It is weird . Could all of this be from using fixodent ? Some of the things I try to discribe to the doctor and he looks at me like I am crazy . The upper front part of my right leg has NO FEELING in it at all and hasn’t had in almost 4 months . Doesn’t seem to worry them .

I, like millions of other denture wearers, have used the Super Poligrip Original Denture Adhesive Cream for years dating back to 1996. I always found this product to be the best of it’s kind, with the best holding power, and ease of use. However, as daily use continued, I developed unexplained soreness in my shoulders and bicep muscles on both arms. Assuming that this constant pain was just a side effect of my job (Delivering heavy appliances) I just took it in stride, and used just about every muscle ache product on the market. Nothing seemed to work, and the pain continued.

This continued for years, until GlaxoSmithKline anounced that their product contained high levels of Zinc. Upon researching this product, and the side effects of high zinc levels, I chose to stop using their product. Remarkably, the pain stopped ! Go figure !

Shame on GlaxoSmithKline for not recalling this dangerous product, and allowing it to be sold openly to this day !!!!!

It is hard to explain in words the comfort and relief I feel when I read the comments left by so many Fixodent and Poligrip users. Much of what they say about the symptons they are experiencing mirrors my own. I have been using Fixodent regularly, and Poligrip occasionally for about two years now, and like many others, I have problems with numbness and a loss of sensation in my hands, legs, and feet and pains in my shoulders, neck, left hand, and left leg. Also, at times my vision becomes blurred, and my hands shake uncontrollably. In recent months my blood has been tested for diabetes and other diseases, and I have undergone several stress tests. My tests results have all been negative, and my doctor says I am in good shape for a man of 71. However, despite it all, I still suffer everyday from the above stated symptoms. When I hear others complain about the same things, this assures me that there is more to this denture adhesive thing than most people realize!

I have been reading all of these comments and I can say that I am in total SHOCK! I too have had a denture over 5 years. I am 45, and I have gotten to the point of extreme forgetfulness! Like my bone disappears without a reason. I don’t understand it and neither does my oral surgeon. He said, he was in shock of the dissolving like this? Well I have been using Fixodent, ever since I got my denture too. I have the stomach problems extremely bad to the point that I have to take medications before I can eat. Oh, the muscle and joint pain if anyone only other than us could feel it they would be shocked. After reading all of these comments and things that I have and others have I am definelty going to go and get tested!

OMG! I was just told about the dangers of Fixodent today. A patient of my boyfriend saw it on 60 Minutes a couple of nights ago, and he wears dentures, and was telling him about it. He sees him for pain therapy. I have been wearing dentures for 30 years and using Fixodent the whole time. I am in severe pain most of the time, especially back and neck. Standing for 10 minutes causes pain and severe muscle spasms. I have pain and tingling in my hands, they also sometimes shake uncontrollably. The pain and tingling in my feet is so bad many shoes I cannot wear, even sneakers. I recently told him I was having a lot of problems with memory…so bad it was scaring me, since I am only 52. My vision gets so blurry sometimes I can barely even see the TV. I have suffered from stomach problems for years…terrible bloating and pain especially after eating. I was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis many years ago. I have suffered from panic attacks since my mid 20’s and am now wondering if that is from zinc poisoning. I am so angry that Proctor & Gamble knew all this and has done nothing. I am sure all the pain meds I have had to take have not been good for my liver.

I am a 32 yr old female. For 3 years I have had top & bottom dentures. I have always used Fixodent with scope adhesive cream. First year I used a tube every 2 weeks. After 6 months my dentures started not fitting so for the past two years I have been using more & more. This last year I am officially up to using 2 tubes a week. 2 oz per tub of above stated brand. 2008 in the beginning I had some back spasms. I could deal with them. April 2009 got in a car wreck, still no one knows what caused me to black out at the wheel. Months prior to wreck I was suffering from blurred vision, dizziness, headaches. After wreck needless to say back hurt more. Had numerous of MRIs CAT scans Xrays (no labs) doctors were at a loss. Nov 2009 ended up having back surgery thinking L4 & L5 were bothering my nerves in spine. Surgery came and completed with no relief. Continus pain, burning, stinging, shocking type sensations. Legs now turn blue as well as feet. All of which are frozen cold to the touch. Dr ordered artery test make sure no blockages. which was neg. Continue narcotic pain meds since surgery. Dosage constatly going up. Pain constatly worse. Numbness burning, dr ordered tens unit, nerve block, epidural injections no relief. Vision is getting worse 20/400 in good eye! WOW? Tired, sluggish, no energy! Dr orders pain management. Dosage now so high on narcotic pain meds its insane. However symptoms still present. I am sure I left a whole lot out. It’s been a long 3 years. So as I went to glue my teeth as usual for the final time today……my husband asked wonder if the glue you swallow will hurt you. We decided to read the label. Zinc?? Had to look that up and low and behold look what we find? Scared to death to use now & wonder is this where all this is coming from? HELP! Last Dr visit not only was symptoms still the same, got higher dosage of pain meds, Dr said last 3 months my blood pressure & heart rate has been extremly elevated. Especially my heart rate! (when compared to visits in a 3month span) What do I do? I am now baffled all this time I am thinking my back however Drs are baffled as well not being able to find or fix issues with more complications progressing. Tired of the pain, tired of no fix, tired of my life being drained at 32 yrs old? Last Dr visit 3/16/11 Dr thinks nerves, nerve damage, nerve what? Do they know, what or why or from where. I need help. It’s ruining my life, stopping me from working, driving, & taking precious time from my husband & children.

Is thing issue still going on? It’s been on the books since 2009 to my knowledge, with no resolution in sight…or I just haven’t found it yet.

I did some googling and it seems there are lawsuit attorneys everywhere looking into filing claims for long-term users of fixodent and polygrip.

My teeth were finally all removed following a succession of infections and continued loss of individual teeth resulting from advanced periondontitis.

That was over 5 years ago, and I’ve had ill-fitting denture issues ever since.

On top of that, nothing has worked to keep the dentures in place (other than polygryp and fixodent).

I look at the amount shown on the box of what’s supposed to work to hold the denture in place, and I find it funny! And the estimated lenght of time it’s supposed to take to get through one tube is
    ridiculous.
I use three times as much as shown, (it’s the only way it will hold), and I buy and consume 2 tubes every three or four days, and that’s been for at least five years as stated above.

Also, can anyone tell me why does my mouth immediately melt the adhesive? I end up ingestingt gobs of this stuff because it melts and slides down my throat, and I don’t want to choke to death on it!

That’s why I’m writing. I’m a little (maybe a lot) worried, as I suffer from almost every symptom they’ve mentioned, including the continual metalic taste in the mouth, on-going stiffness in my joints and limbs, continual numbness in right leg, fingertips of right hand, and temprary loss of sensation in the right hand.

My wife, my dr, and my previous co-workers couldl testify about my on-going issues with these things, all of which were experienced after buying and using these products.

Now, to be fair, there are many other issues (probably unrelated) like digestive, including difficulty swallowing, excessive bloating, whether I eat a lot or not, (I’m only 145 pds) and a host of other problems like
    irritable bowel, constipation, etc.

I’ve tried to work on my diet with more fruits and fiber, and green,
etc, but my stomach cant handle a lot of raw fiber, and I can’t chew a lot of grains with these dentures. A lot of health issues like arthritis, would probably be considerd as age-related.

    (I’ll be 55 in 2 weeks..yyayyy! (huh?) probably shouldn’t celebrate that…

Anyway, I read that you should have your dentures realligned every two years, but we (my signif other and myself) moved out of the state where the dental work was done, and I just have not been able to
afford new ones, or pay for an allignment.

I’ve been trying to find out whether there’s has beeen a judgement anywhere in favor of the plaintiffs in these cases, but so far I haven’t seen one result.

I guess I should be looking for an attorney that represents folks that live here in OR.?
It seems though, that after reading excerpts from some cases invoving this issue, that attys for the plaintiffs cannot prove causation of disease resulting from the product use, so they can’t successfully hold the product manufacturers liable, they can only hypothesize, and/or present statistical study results that really just infer non-specific conclusions, drawn from research where control groups data does not/cannot represent all-inclusive user facts that could successfully be applied in court..

.(does any of that garbage make sense-I’d be a great lawyer if it does, or maybe even if it doesn’t,see, I could just muddy up the waters a little, so the real issues don’t get addressed.)

Seriously, there are so many factors, (drug use, sugar consumption (remember sugar affects everything), pre-existing health conditions, etc., and the case dialogue I was reading from also takes into consideration the user’s history, previous medical condition, etc. etc.. so they probably are very successful at bogging down the court with all these findings, (or non-findings, and in the end, nothing gets resolved.

I myself have liver disease, and I’m diagnosed as hep c, so even when I try to sign up for research studies i otherwise qualify to participate in, these conditions automatically remove me from being
eligibile for said study…Wouldn’t the same issues come up in court if I filed a lawsuit, or joined an existing one? Is it worth the time and energy?

The Zinc and Petrolatum have been replaced by almost 35% Olive Oil. Combining this with a strong, long lasting hold for up 24 hours and more, and the fact that Olivafix contains no added preservatives proves that Olivafix is the name for the future for Denture Fixative Creams.

Been wearing dentures since 2004 and using fixodent control since then. The entire time I had suffered from nausea, numbness in hands, prickly feelings in fingertips, daily headaches, forgetfulness, and migraines (at least once a week).

I had no idea what had been causing this. The last 7 months I’ve gone without wearing my dentures due to them not fitting correctly and all the symptom were gone within a month. I had no headaches (which felt like the first time in my life I had not had one).

I thought it must have been the dentures causing the headaches and migraines.

About 3 weeks ago I got a new set of dentures and am using fixodent (no zinc added – though still contains zinc) and all the problems have started up again.

I had no idea it could be the adhesive. Now I know

I have had dentures for two years now. I have always used the Fixodent after trying multiple different ones including SeaBond, Poligrip, Secure Dental and always went back to Fixodent finding it had the most comfort. I generally had to use Fixodent two to three times a day. Recently in the past couple of months I have had problems with Muscle control in my legs feeling like rubber bands snapping in them, my fingers will go numb almost so cold there is no circulation, and every single night I have the need to throw up. My joints are so painful there is no words to describe it.

The test was what was like a shock treatment which I have to admit was really painful. I was put on a medication which is not working for it anymore and I am about ready to go back this week to see him again with this information and go from there.

Also, when I take my dentures out, I have to SCRUB my whole mouth and the top of it until I bleed to get the Polygrip out, and sometimes I feel a bit go down my throat! I haven’t been feeling well but I have no fever, etc. Last night after using saline spray in my nose, I breathed in strong and felt something go down my throat from my nasal area. I coughed it up in the sink. It was the most disgusting THING and it was like rubbery glue!!! It must have been the Polygrip!!! It was there for about a month or more and I’m scared that some might be in my lungs!!!

I have been using Fixodent for years and had none of the symptoms described here. However, I was recently diagnosed with Aplastic anemia and have had to receive blood transfusions and platelet transfusions. The doctors can find no reason for this. It appears that my immune system is attacking my bone marrow. There is a new drug available but it would cost me $600.00 for a 1 month supply. That’s with the insurance company taking $14,000.00 on their shoulders. I just read that there is a connection between sideroblastic anemia and zinc overdose. I will be letting my doctors know about this when I go for my next weekly doctor’s appointment. I am at this time transfusion dependent. Maybe the problem will be reversed now that I have some idea of what is causing it. Good luck to everyone who is having problems. I agree that the company should be held accountable for the pain that everyone has been subjected to.

I actually made a oppointment to see my doctor today for tomorrow as in the last few weeks I have developed a few of the symptoms everyone on this page is mentioning, until reading this tonight I had no idea what it could be that was causing my problems,”BUT”, I have been removing my denture sometimes quite early at night as I have been getting a kind of burning sensation on my gums and roof of my mouth, but the main symptom I wanted to talk to my Dr. about was the arm and shoulder pain, tingly itchy lower legs, twitching, and also reflux sometimes severe in the last few weeks, appetite loss, and pain in the stomach, I have woken up with the reflux deposits in my upper windpipe which burns and takes sometime to clear, after removing my upper plate tonight and having the burning sensation I just got a feeling that maybe there was something in the denture adhesive that could be causing the problems, I logged on and here I am on this page, I looked for ingredients on my denture paste and it has no indication whatsoever what it is comprised of, i will take my laptop to the Dr. tomorrow and ask him if he knows about this stuff, if not I will show him, also there were a few days a couple of weeks ago that I didnt go out and didnt wear my denture p-late, I remember the reflux fading but came back and now I believe I know why, with the arm and shoulder pain even Panadiene Forte and Extra Strong Dencorub makes no difference. If we are being affected by these products something needs to be done about it and NOW!!. Until recently I thought I was very fit for my age, but these problems inhjcl. tiredness and also a couple of the natural teeth I still have just came loose fell out of the gums, no blood, nothing , just fell out. I just received dentures two days ago, and my dentist gave me a couple sample tubes of Fixodent. Yesterday I noticed a tingle in my throat, but did not think much of it. Today my throat has been so constricted that I cannot stop coughing. Aside from the new dentures and Fixodent, nothing in my daily routine has changed, so I started reading up on Fixodent. This could be an allergic reaction, but in reading all the complaints, I’m amazed that this company has not found a way to alter their formula to assure its safety. Note, the sample tubes I received do not list any warnings or even ingredients.

I got a lower denture in December. My dentist gave me a soft liner that fit snug so I hadn’t used an adhesive up until about 2 weeks ago, They loosened up my denture so now I have to use something so it will stay in place when I eat or talk. I have been using Poligrip & have had a horrible dry cough ever since. I can’t stand the goopy slimy feeling in my mouth at the end of the day.. I have not had the pain symptoms, as my neck, shoulders hands have been previously injured at work. Last night I went to the store & bought Sea Bond strips. I just put them in a couple of hours ago, and my denture is already loose… Fortunately I will be getting a permanent denture when my gums have healed for 6 months to a year,I already have the posts, so THIS dilemma isn’t permanent. In the meantime though.. I’m hoping this seabond stuff will work okay & I can get rid of this horrid cough.

Than things got so bad i had to stop working because i could not handle the pain any more. I started going to doctors and all they thought was that i was looking for pain medication. The medication part was true, but i really had so much pain, I was sent for MRI than test after test after test and finally the doctor found that i had neuropathy. Now for the last 5 years i been on pain management, i take all types of pain meds but that gets old. Plus my pain really never goes away, every minute of every day I’m in pain. No, Cushion Grip was never in a law suit none of the thermoplastic denture adhesives such as Cushion Grip or Comfort Lining thermoplastic denture adhesive have zinc at all.
They contain something completely different from all other denture adhesives. I believe secure might be exempt from the zinc as well.
That’s why I stick to only using Cushion Grip or Comfort Lining. No zinc

Oh my Gosh! This has scared me so bad! I am 66 and have been using fixodent since I was 30! I have so many things wrong with me! Headaches so bad I can’t see, stomach problems, can’t sleep as I have now been throwing up from severe acid. My fingers and hands are numb. I now have complete bone loss on top where dentures are. I am raising a grandchild and can not be sick! I am going to see if I can get dental implants, as I refuse to go without teeth. I also have degenitrive disk disease, and swelling inside my mouth on both my cheeks plus infection that has started coming out. I wonder if the makers of fixodent would let their children or parents use fixodent? I get very depressed and upset! Someone needs to pay for our expenses and poor health problems. I’m praying for everyone of you. I hope these lawyers can help us all! I have a child that depends on me!!

I’ve been a denture wearer for just under 6 years now. I started with fixadent for a year plus but couldn’t stand the taste it left in my mouth it left me feeling sick to my stomach. Shortly after I got my dentures I started feeling off. Started having blood pressure problems. Feeling like I was going to pass out. Muscle weakness and fatigue. I started to wonder if I had ms. I had a ct scan of my heart a mri of my brain. Test to see if I was having seizures. Couldn’t find anything. I read that zinc in the paste was not good for you so I changed over to a zinc free poly grip. But here I am with more symptoms trying to figure out whats wrong. I was hurting so bad I felt like a truck hit me. So I saw my doctor to see if it was arthritis. She did bloodwork and my inflammation levels were off the wall high. So she sent me to a rheumatoid doc to see whats up. He said yes you have rheumatoid and punt me on harsh meds I was feeling better and my numbers came down some but still high. He retired and I saw the new rheumatoid doc and he said no I don’t think you have it. I don’t know whats causing your numbers to be high. Well my numbers climbed back up. I have fibro myalgia and some osteo arthritis but thinks my nerves are being affected and I get muscle craps twitching. Uncontrolled blood pressure that goes up and down depending on what the inflammation is doing. I am all out of wack. I get pain in my rib cage that wraps around and in my stomach. My feet hurt so bad. I had a mri of my right foot other then a little irritation to my big toe joint they can’t find anything. My 3rd rheumatologist said I believe you and I think the meds were treating something but what I don’t know. Even my blood pressure would be normal on the rheumatoid meds without blood pressure pills. I have dizzy spells coming and going all the time. I don’t have 1 day that I can feel normal. I have to wonder if any of this was brought on by the zinc and my symptoms have gotten worse. Can there be something in the zinc free paste that can affect us as well?

I got dentures for the first time 2 years ago. At first I used fixodent and polygrip both, not at the same time but as a comparison to each other, for hold etc.
Decided the polygrip was a little better, but I used more than recommended because my job requires me to talk to people all day and smile a lot. (I’m in sales) and I noticed that if I didn’t use more my teeth may get a little loose on into the day and wiggle embarrassingly.
After just a few months I started having strange new health problems.
First, I was having stomache problems.
Upset tummy pains off and on all day
Throwing up sometimes in the morning when brushing my teeth and gargling. Really wierd.
Then as time went on, started having numb hands, and back problems in addition to the throwing up and occasional gagging and not being able to swallow once in a while when laying down.
Also I developed a general overall feeling of being sick, though doctor could not determine any exact cause for this.
I am by nature very energetic normally but was suddenly lethargic for no apparent reason.
This went on a few months making me feel older and sicker, with respitory problems, new allergies and more numbness.
So I started reading and researching online for answers.
I was surprised to find that my denture cream, that I had assumed was harmless, may be to blame for all of my agony.
So I researched more and found a denture cream online that was different. Unfortunately this denture cream is only available online, as I’ve tried to find it at walmart and walgreens, etc. with no success.
I bought it online, and after using it for a month I have almost recovered 100% from all the tummy aches and numbness.
I cant say what, if any, long term other effects might happen from using this product. But my health has improved thus far, and all I did was change my denture cream.
Oh, and it sticks better and stays better than any of the drugstore stuff that made me sick.
It’s called Secure. I bought the one that says for sensitive and contains Aloe vera and Myrrh. Its Zinc free. Is waterproof. Doesnt go down your throat.
Im not a commercial. Im not selling this product. I cannot promise anything about this stuff. I can only tell you that I am doing much better since using this, and I hope that by posting this I can help someone else.
I bought mine on Amazon. Found best deal there.

at first i told my doctor that my small toes were always numb. her comment was that my shoes were probably too tight. my shoes were not too tight! then progressively my feet became numb. then the outside of my calves became numb. in the morning i couldn’t even swallow a glass of water without gagging on it. that’s when i kind of suspected it might be the poligrip and got on the internet to see if there were any problems with this product. everything mentioned had to do with the zinc that was in poligrip, and since i was using the non-zinc product, figured that was not the problem. (i had used POLIGRIP with zinc for years before this) then i developed severe hip pains to where getting in-and-out of the car or going up a flight of stairs was a painful event. hand-joint pains along with knee joints. i was getting psoriasis like scabs on my head that were hard as rocks.
ok, so here’s the kicker; i’ll be 78 in two months and anyone would say these type of things
happen at this age. the only thing is that i stopped using poligrip about two weeks ago and the symptoms are slowly going away. i’m getting feeling back in my feet, going up and down stairs is a breeze, as is getting in and out of the car. the scabs on my head have gone. i can drink without gagging and take my dog for long walks. i feel my memory is even getting better . sounds like a miracle, right ? it’s NOT!! i’m totally convinced that it was the poligrip causing all these problems.
so, the next thing to say is “IT’S SOMETHING ELSE IN POLIGRIP THAT IS CAUSING
THE PROBLEMS.” it could be that because of some condition that i have makes poligrip
react to me in this way.

I’ve worn upper dentures and now lower dentures and have sworn be both polygrip and fixodent. A few years ago I started experience left shoulder pain when I lie down or wear tight foundation. I could see no reason for the discomfort so I just took pain meds so I could sleep. I eventually began to have a distortion in vision in my right eye resulting in a surgical procedure. I recently began wearing lower dentures and increased the use of adhesive. The left shoulder pain has become so severe that I thought I was having a heart attack and my vision has become more blurred. I could see nothing I had done or anything that had happened to cause the discomfort so I began to segment everything I do to recognize a cause but nothing checked out until I got down do the use or dental adhesive, especially since the pain andvision problems became more prevalent when I increased the use of adhesive.

In approx April I started using polygrip, then fixadent ultra almost exclusively. I already had back problems. Last Spring I started losing my balance at times walking. A few months ago I began to find it starting to be difficult to focus which has gotten gradually worse with time. During all this I began to lose weight because i have slowly stopped eating, now down from a meal a day to forcing myself to eat at least every other day or two. Over a month ago I noticed just above my ankles my skin was dark red 6 inches high with some swelling. It didn’t go away for 2 weeks. This past week my feet and ankles have become painfully swollen. I decided tonight to see if there was anything about side affects from denture adhesives and found your site. Earlier this week I made an appointment to see my PCP. I go Monday. I’m going to have him do some bloodwork.

Recently i tried using polygrip max seal because i had taken up playing brass instruments again , something I did prior to having full dentures fitted, and found that it was difficult to play when my dentures moved. I only used the product once and it resulted in immediate soreness in my mouth, redness also and small white spots. My throat is incredibly sore making it difficult to swallow anything. I have ceased using the product and cleaned it off my dentures. I have not visited a GP.

I have been using Fixodent for several years now – only tiny amounts on upper dentures but I have many of the symptoms that people have mentioned previously. Blurry eyes, losing my memory, strange seizure like episodes and tingling in my feet and hands etc. Just the other night I had a strange nocturnal ‘seizure’ and next day felt very odd as if I wasn’t really here – like I was dreaming. I was trying to work out what could have happened and realised that I had used the Fixodent at night, something I don’t do very often. Well, I started reading up on it and have come to the conclusion that that is what it was. Zinc overload. Scary stuff – going to stop using it and find something more natural, if I can. Just as an added reason, zinc toxicity can cause Copper Deficiency which causes many of the problems that people are suffering. So please, everybody get checked out. I wish you all good luck and good health in the future. Take care….
