France has suspended sales of Actos, a popular diabetes drug that has been linked to a possible risk of bladder cancer. The recall comes after a number of studies, leading some to question why an Actos recall has not been issued in the United States.

The Actos lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. have been reviewing potential lawsuits for individuals throughout the United States diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos, as recent research has suggested that the medication may cause users to face an increased risk of cancer.

French medical regulators pulled Actos from shelves on June 9 after a review of insurance data found increased incidents of bladder cancer among French Actos users. The drug is taken by about 230,000 people there. They also recalled Competact, which combines Actos and metaformin. Both are Takeda Pharmaceuticals drugs.

The FDA and European Medicines Agency are both currently reviewing Actos bladder cancer risks, but neither has come to a conclusion yet. The EMA has said it will look at the French study that led to the recall there.

In April, a study by Italian researchers found that more than a fifth of all bladder cancer reports received by the FDA in connection to a diabetes drug were from users of Actos. Those findings came several months after the FDA announced that it was investigating a possible bladder cancer risk with Actos.

The FDA launched an investigation in September 2010, after data from an on-going 10 year study of Actos by Takeda Pharmaceuticals suggested that users may face a statistically significant risk of bladder cancer from Actos the longer the medication is taken.

ACTOS RECALL LAWSUITS

Potential Actos lawsuits allege that Takeda Pharmaceuticals knew or should have known about the potential risk of bladder cancer from Actos and failed to adequately warn consumers or the medical community. If the Actos cancer risk outweighs the potential benefits provided by the medication in treating diabetes, than an Actos recall should be issued in the United States as well.

I do not understand why some endocronologist doctors still use Actos as a drug while they should stop prescribing it in Lebanon especially after we heard what side effect it can cause. Can someone explain to them
