Although it has been 15 years since Fen-Phen was recalled, individuals who used the diet drug continue to face a risk of developing persisten pulmonary hypertension (PPH), heart valve disease and other serious health problems from the medication, which may not appear for years after last use.

A recent court ruling seems to confirm that the door remains open for individuals who recently discovered that they are suffering from side effects of the diet drug to pursue a potential Fen-Phen lawsuit settlement.

The lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are continuing to provide free consultations and claim evaluations for individuals who believe they may have a claim.

FEN-PHEN PROBLEMS MAY NOT DEVELOP FOR YEARS AFTER USE

Fen-Phen was a popular weight-loss drug combination, which contained fenfluramine (which was marketed as Pondimin) and phentermine. Side effects of Fen Phen have been shown to increase the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening injuries, such as pulmonary hypertension and heart valve problems.

Fenfluramine was developed by American Home Products, which subsequently became Wyeth and was later acquired by Pfizer. The drug makers have paid out billions of dollars in Fen Phen settlements, and individuals may still be entitled to obtain a compensation or pursue a product liability lawsuit as a result of their failure to warn about the risks associated with the weight-loss treatment.

Pfizer recently attempted to have several cases dismissed, where plaintiffs alleged that they developed persistent pulmonary hypertension (PPH) from Fen-Phen nine or more years after their last use of the drug.

In an order issued last week by U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle III, who is presiding over all consolidated federal Fen-Phen lawsuits in Philadelphia, the court is allowing the cases to move forward

There is evidence to establish that individuals may not develop any signs of problems from Fen-Phen for years after their last use of the medication.

Symptoms could include:

  • Shortness of Breath
  • Chest Pain
  • Dizziness or Fainting
  • Fatigue
  • Ankle or Feet Swelling
  • Coughing Blood

Years, or even decades, after use, the risk of Fen-Phen health problems could pose an even greater concern for individuals, who are now older and may suffer more serious long-term health complications.

Potential claims may still be viable through a Fen-Phen lawsuit for individuals who have been diagnosed with:

  • Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH)
  • Heart Valve Disease
  • Heart Surgery or Heart Transplant
  • Heart Valve Lesions, Valve Stenosis or Valve Leakage

The Fen-Phen lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are continuing to provide free consultations and claim evaluations for individuals throughout the United States who believe that they may be entitled to receive a settlement.

All cases are reviewed on a contingency fee basis, which means that there are no out of pocket expenses to hire our law firm and attorney fees are only charged out of any recovery that is secured in the case.

I took Fen-Phen too, for years, off and on, while living in California. I have NAFLD, which was originally called NASH disease (fatty liver), diagnosed in 2000, some 6 to 10 years after I took Fen-Phen. I have already been diagnosed with hypertension, too, heart problems and I am only 61 years old. “IF” there is an attorney who wants to help me file a suit against the company manufactoring and selling Fen-Phen, write to me via my e-mail address. I know of 3 people who all took Fen-Phen who all have been diagnosed with NASH/NAFLD Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. I have a liver specialist who is following me and my progession of NAFLD. In the last year, my liver disease has progressed to moderate to severe infiltration.

I took Fen Phen for 9 months in the late 90’s. My regular doctor heard a heart murmur in July 2019 and sent me for an echo. The reading was severe mitral regurgitation. I was then referred to a cardiologist who did a heart catheter to see if I had any blockages. I didn’t have any so this cardiologist referred me to a Cleveland Clinic cardiologist who was working at UK Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. I had mitral valve repair on August 29, 2019 with a ring called Duran Ancore Annuloplasty Band. I was in the hospital for 12 days because I went into Afib. Please let me know if I have a case since I have had surgery now. Thank you, Kathy Jones

Hello I am 52 and I took the drug Phen Phen in the 90s I have been diagnosed with hypertension and atrial fibrillation. After they took it off the market in the later 90s cause of problems my doctor back then put me on high blood pressure medication. I have been on the drug metoprolol for high blood pressure for over 10 years now and about 5 years ago diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation A fib they call it I have had 3 ambulations each time I am put under and they shock my heart back into regular arrhythmia. I was never approached ever to join in this lawsuit and the doctor is still selling a Phen drug as of today. Is there still a chance to file a lawsuit? Or any help for this at all. Thank you so much.

I took the drug Fen Phen from 1996-1998 and never joined any lawsuits. In 2014 I was diagnosed with hypertension, Systolic heart failure of the left ventricle, CHF and AFIB. Over the years it’s gotten worse to the point last year my heart function was 15-20% Efraction. I had cardio ablation also last year due to the AFib. Is it too late to file a claim?
