FDA Video: MRI contrast dye warnings due to risk of NSF
The latest edition of the FDA Patient Safety News webcast features a segment about the dangers of MRI contrast agents containing gadolinium. For individuals with kidney failure, the MRI contrast dyes could lead to a serious condition called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) or nephrogenic fibrosing demopathy (NFD).

MRI complications lead to serious skin problems for some
Since magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was first introduced in the 1980s, it has become a widely used diagnostic tool. In many cases a contrast agent is administered before the test to allow the physicians to differentiate blood vessels from nearby tissue. However, for those with kidney problems, contrast enhanced MRI complications could result in a serious problem, known as Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF).

Heart CT Scan cancer risk
High-resolution heart CT scans used to diagnose blocked arteries and heart disease could increase the risk of cancer, according to a new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The 64-slice heart scans, known as a computer tomography (CT) coronary angiography, use high levels of radiation, which lead to an increased risk of cancer which is especially apparent in women and young adults. MRI Safety guidelines regarding risk of NSF from contrast agents
The American College of Radiology (ACR) issued an update to their 2004 guidelines on MRI safety, called the ACR Guidance Document for Safe MR Practices. A section of the document is devoted to discussing the risk of Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF), also known as Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD) which has been linked to the use of gadiolinium MRI contrast agents in patients with kidney insufficiencies.

Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis History
At Saiontz, Kirk & Miles, P.A., our lawyers are reviewing potential lawsuits for individuals who have been diagnosed with Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis, which has been directly linked to gadolinium-based contrast dyes used during MRI and MRA scans. Many people have contacted our office expressing concerns about the MRI contrast problems and asking questions about the history of Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis, which has only developed over the past ten years.

MRI with contrast could lead to serious skin problems
Since our law firm began representing individuals who developed Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis after receiving an MRI or MRA with contrast, we have spoken with many concerned individuals with serious skin problems who have not been diagnosed with the rare condition. Even without a diagnosis, our lawyers are investigating claims to help determine whether a gadolinium contrast agent may be responsible for the skin disorder.

MRI Contrast Problems lead to FDA warning
Today the FDA requested that a black box warning be added to MRI contrast agents which are gadolinium-based. For those with kidney problems, an MRA or MRI with contrast could lead to a debilitating and potentially fatal condition known as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF). Problems with the MRI contrast agents have caused life-changing injuries for hundreds of people, and the nephrogenic systemic fibrosis lawyers at Saiontz, Kirk & Miles, P.A. are reviewing potential lawsuits nationwide against the manufacturers of these contrast agents.

MRI/MRA Contrast Causes Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis
Individuals with kidney problems could develope a painful and serious disorder as a side effect of gadolinium contrast agents which may be administered for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). The lawyers at Saiontz, Kirk & Miles, P.A. are reviewing lawsuits for individuals diagnosed with Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NFS), also known as Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy (NFD). The only known cause for this rare disease is the MRI/MRA contrast.
