OSTEOPENIA MEDICATION SIDE EFFECTS

The popular osteoporosis medication, Fosamax, has also been prescribed for treatment of osteopenia to prevent further bone density loss.  Studies have shown that a side effect of Fosamax is a serious jaw injury, osteonecrosis of the jaw.   After prolonged use of Fosamax, there is a greatly increased risk of jawbone death and permanent injury, so it is important to monitor for the signs and symptoms of jaw necrosis.

Other studies have suggested that Fosamax side effects may also increase the risk of decay in other bones, leading to hip necrosis, knee necrosis or shoulder necrosis.

Saiontz & Kirk previously investigated Fosamax lawsuit claims against the drug manufacturer for failing to warn patients and the medical communicty about the known risks associated with the medication. Following settlements that resolved the litigation, new claims are no longer being pursued. This page is provided for informational purposes only.
