NUVA RING SIDE EFFECTS
The Nuva Ring is a small and flexible vaginal ring, which is designed to be inserted into the vagina once a month. It is kept in place for three weeks, releasing controlled amounts of ethinyl estradiol (EE) and etonogestrel, which modify female hormones to prevent pregnancy.
Etonogestral, also known as "third generation" progestin desogestrel, has been linked to serious health concerns, including a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots and other cardiovascular problems. NuvaRing delivers a relatively high dose of this hormone.
In February 2007, the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen petitioned the FDA to ban oral birth control pills that contain third generation progestin desogestrel, since it could double the riisk of blood clots when compared to second generation oral contraceptives.
Organon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has failed to adequately warn about the potential NuvaRing blood clot side effects which have caused permanent and life-threatening injuries for women. As a result of their failure to properly disclose the potential NuvaRing problems, women who have suffered injuries may be entitled to financial compensation.
