Following the Veggie Booty snack recall on June 28, 2007, the manufacturer announced yesterday that they are also recalling Super Veggie Tings Crunchy Corn Sticks Snack Food.  The crunchy corn sticks use the same seasoning as Veggie Bootie, leading to fears that the snack food may also be contaminated with salmonella, which has sickened people throughout the United States.

SUPER VEGGIE TINGS RECALL

Super Veggie Tings recall snack food

The new Super Veggie Tings recall applies to all lots and sizes of the snack food sold throughout the United States and Canada.  The product is manufactured by Robert’s American Gourmet, of Sea Cliff, New York.  In addition to Super Veggie Tings and Veggie Booty, the company also sells the popular snack foods marketed as Pirate’s Booty, Soy Crisps, Tings, and a variety of other baked, fried and air-popped snacks.

At this time, the recall only applies to Veggie Booty and Super Veggie Tings, as the company has indicated that the contamination does not appear to have effected the other products.  Investigations are continuing by the manufacturer, FDA and CDC to determine the cause of the contamination and the extent of the danger associated with thehse snacks.

SALMONELLA AND VEGGIE SNACK FOODS

Super Veggie Tings and Veggie Booty were withdrawn from the market because they may be contaminated with salmonella, a bacteria which could lead to food poisoning and serious injuries in some cases.  The strain of the bacteria which has been associated with the seasoning used on both products is salmonella wandsworth.

Symptoms of salmonella food poisoning includes:

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea (which may be bloody)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal Pain

While most healthy adults recover within 3 to 7 days, salmonella can cause serious and potentially fatal food poisoning for children, elderly and those with a weakened immune system.  This is especially troubling since Veggie Booty and Super Veggie Tings are often consumed by young children, and parents gave them the product because they believed it was a safe and healthy snack food.

REFUNDS AND LAWSUITS

If you have NOT suffered an injury, and wish to obtain only a refund of the purchase price, send the package to:

Robert’s American Gourmet
Veggie Booty Recall
P.O. Box 326
Sea Cliff, New York 11579

The product SHOULD NOT be returned to the manufacturer if you suspect that any injury was caused by the contaminated snack food. Safely store the bag, and request a free legal consultation to discuss your rights.

At this time, Robert’s American Gourmet is only offering a refund of the purchase price.  They are instructing customers to dispose of any remaining contents and send the empty plastic foil package back to them.  However, following their recommendations could severely compromise your family’s ability to pursue financial compensation for any sickness or illness suffered by the Veggie Booty or Super Veggie Tings recalls.

The food poisoning lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are investigating lawsuits against the manufacturer for individuals who have suffered serious illness requiring medical treatment after eating Veggie Booty or Super Veggie Tings.  If you believe that you may have a case, any remnants of the product together with the packaging should be safely stored in a manner to prevent anyone from eating it, but which will allow for future testing.
