Since our law firm began reviewing potential da Vinci surgery lawsuits, our lawyers have spoken with a number of individuals throughout the United States who have experienced severe and devastating injuries that may have been avoided if they had not undergone robotic surgery using the device.

Based on our investigation, it appears that the manufacturer, Intuitive Surgical, Inc., aggressively marketed this device while attempting to minimize the serious risk of complications and side effects from da Vinci surgery. However, evidence is being to emerge about the surprisingly large number of people who have experienced serious issues after undergoing a da Vinci robotic surgery.

Da Vinci surgery side effects may include damage to the bowel, badder, blood vessels, arteries, ureters, vaginal cuff and other organs or surrounding tissue due to a risk of:

  • Burns and Tears
  • Dehincenses (which involves openings or ruptures of organs, allowing fluids or contents to leak out)
  • Hematomas (which involves a collection of blood outside the blood vessels)
  • Sepsis or Infections
  • Fistulas (which involves an abnormal connection or passageway between two organs or vessels that do not normally connect)

Many of the effects experienced by individuals following robotic surgery appear to be related to the use of monopolar energy to cut, burn and cauterize tissue. In addition, the da Vinci robot may have inadequate insulation for the arms, which may become worn or torn in places, allowing the electrical current from the da Vinci robot to “arc” and cause damage outside the operative field.

In addition to problems with the design and marketing of the device, Intuitive Surgical also failed to adequately train surgeons or proctor them on the proper use of their complex robot.

Many hospitals allow physicians to perform da Vinci surgery on live patients after only receiving limited training, yet emerging research suggests that the risk of side effects from da Vinci surgery may be substantially higher with less experienced surgeons, and some procedures require hundreds of cases before a surgeon becomes proficient with the technique.

It will be 12 months since my surgery and im still in pain!! Going threw tests after test and have no answers as of yet? Im very frustrated and tired of being in pain! Feels like it could be nerve issues in bladder, overy area? anyone else have the same issue after surgery??

I had a cystocele, rectocele, vaginal vault prolapse, as well as pelvic organ prolapse which required surgery. My GYN suggested using the Da Vinci abdominal procedure(sacrocolpopexy) as he explained to me it was much safer than the earlier transvaginal procedure. I was in pain to the point i had to go out of work on FMLA because I could no longer perform my required duties. Since the surgery, I have been in pain both in the pelvic region as well as having constant vaginal muscle spasms. My Dr. waited 9 weeks out after the surgery to inform me that the sacrum attachment which held everything in place was too tight resulting in my pain. Then he informs me another operation is necessary to go in and loosen the tension. Two surgeries later I am still in pain, fearful of losing my job, and am being forced to return to work to keep from losing my job. I have bills to pay.
I am now at week 11 with little improvement. Tired of being in pain all the time as well. Can you make any suggestions?
Gina, I truly sympathize with you .

I had a total hysterectomy using the da Vinci 9 months ago. After one month I started having pain on my abdomen. My doctor said go to a GI maybe it’s the gall bladder, kidney stones or stomach issues. GI gave anti-seizure meds to calm the nerve endings. No change in fact pain is worse now all around trunk area and down my right side. I went back to my primary dr got blood work everything normal. My oncologist ordered CT scan everything normal all organs. After that continued taking ,hydroco and,, gabatin for pain. This pain has changed me completely I am not as active and depressed because I dont know what’s wrong. I am going to a neurologist soon maybe I’ll get an answer. Hope you feel better.

I had a total Hystorectomy using the Da Vinci method 13 months ago, since then I have had non stop pain in my right hip radiating down my leg going into spasims, terrible pain. I am still paying off the bills and was told to just do theropy, right now I can’t afford the co-pays and loss of work. I now con’t sleep at night and have a pronounced limp, I am 47 years old and had always been active. Has any one else had this happen to them?

Well, here it is December & still out of work due to pain. I have been shifted from Dr. to Dr. and they all say they cannot find the cause. Went through a complete MRI and still nothing. The original surgeon finally gave up in frustration not being able to find the cause & sent me to Duke Hospital for an evaluation. They cannot find anything either! I am so frustrated and my husband is so upset because all he can do is watch me cry(daily) I too have developed a slight limp from this. I would rather have lived with the prolapse than this! Do not think I will ever get better. My job is hanging by a thread. Was unable to return to work in June as was originally stated. Am running out of options. Anyone have any suggestions?

had a full hysterectomy via da vinci. When I woke up form surgery, I had this very sharp, intense deep pain when I coughed, sneezed, got out of bed, and bent over toofar so I thought it was b/c of surgery and would go away. It’s about 2 inches over from the upper most incision. It has been almost 3 mos and I feel it when I impact, like jumping jacks, jumps off a step, run faster on an elliptical and when I lay on my side. I asked my surgeon and he siad he didn’t do anything there that would cause the pain. I had an ultrasound on my gb,liver, pan,an kidney which came back normal and my physician says to use a heating pad. Now I am going to have to continue being the squeaky wheel to figure out what the heck the pain is caused from!

WOW OK i HAD A SURGERY 9-10-2010 for a simply hysterectomy. I was in surgery for 9 hours when i woke up I had bowl coming up through my vaginal area. My husband could not reconize my face he said it looked as if someone punched me over and over. my doctor told me i would have to have another surgery because he did not know what went wrong. I was sent home and did not have a bowl movement for 28 day’s with bowl running through my whole system. I was readmitted and 12 day’s later a tube ripped through my colon. we took pictures and then the nightmare of over 33 trips to Northwestern Hospital to have corrective surgery. 2 years later I have still problems with my colon. I now have to have more tests since i’m bleeding in my uterus area. and bowl keeps backing up. No lawyers and i’ve had many will even touch my case since i did not die. they just can’t risk getting me into court because as they say it’s not enough money it was only a tube. they don’t know if the tube was off the machine or an enema tube. Please someone help media attention is needed for our stories to get out there. My faith in the system is being tested but as Cassie say’s lets keep praying that someone will care enough to fight the beast of this system.

First, let me say I feel for all of you as I too had kidney surgery in Aug.2012 via da vinci. The pain I felt deep in my hip and the intense burning I felt was disregarded by my doctor as being just symptoms of “after surgery.” Here it is 5 months later, the burning is so intense, I finally researched it, sounds very much like RSD syndrome caused by nerve and vessel damage. Caused by da vinci? Fatigue and depression are now knocking loudly at my door. Never had any of this before procedure was done. Worst part, it is getting worse! Down to working only 2 days a week, and that is difficult! We must band together & take action, some how, some way! It is wrong we suffer like this!

  • Karyn says:

I had a date with Da Vinci in August 2012. Surgery did last a bit longer because of other complications (ie, lost needle and a “massive hernia”). I had a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with a left Salpingo-oophorectomy. I returned to work a bit too early (two weeks later) and just felt extremely exhausted. At that time, other issues like a fissure, broken blood clot and flatulence became a thorn in my side but soon subsided. I continue to have an uncomfortable dull feeling in my right lower abnominal/pelvic area but just enough to be a nuisance. I have had numerous CT scans (I can probably light up a small stadium) and of course, niente. It seems way too often, the physician’s focus is depression or anxiety. “Is anxiety or depression the cause of your hypersensitivity”, I have been asked. Many have heard it way too many times. Let me mention the fact that my pain in my stomach prior to my surgery sent me to the ER many times but only for the physician to say, “we will get you something for the pain but it will be a non narcotic.” The last time I looked in the mirror I was an intelligent, hard working wife and mother but how fast I was labeled a drug seeker. That trip to the ER in ~June 2012 because of intense abdominal pain with a twist. I am not talking about a twist of lime in my Kamakazee but a distracting twist as if my insides were a shammy. A CT scan was performed and the physician explained that I had a kidney stone that shouldn’t be causing me any pain because of where it is sitting. It could come down tomorrow or in ten years he said. That’s when the words of wisdom dribbled out of his mouth like a newborns saliva during teething and said, “how is your anxiety”? I wanted to believe his decade of dominant knowledge could’ve uttered something a little more sophisticated. No, I was wrong. I was referred to my GYN because of a previous diagnosis of endometriosis and sent off to play. I hope you are following me here. This trip to the ER was in June and my visit to GYN was in July with a surgery scheduled for TAH on August 2nd. If you recall in the beginning, my surgery took a bit longer because of other issues….yes it was a “massive hernia” that took my GYN “an hour to pull my intestines out”, he exclaimed. I guess the teething ER doctor needs a bib after all. I requested the radiology report from the ER and sure enough, the hernia was mentioned by the radiologist but never relayed to me. Result- An unnecessary TAH. A simple hernia repair by an appropriate surgeon could have be the solution to my agony. Now I am only left with a dull, yet constant reminder of the hysterectomy I never needed. I’m sure the legal system would argue the fact I have two healthy children so having more children is besides the point.

had a full hysterectomy via da vinc 8 months ago, Before my surgery I was very normal with bowel movements and so forth, I was like a clock every single morning I was very regular. Right after my surgery I started having problems, I started taking fiber and didn’t help all it did was get me bloated, then I started taking stool softeners and it helped a little then I had to go for more stronger meds like laxatives and that seemed to help for a while, but I suffer from abdominal pain , very much gas, and now I have started taking 3 to 4 laxatives a night or else I won’t have a bowel movement. I have been to doctors and they all say the same thing take fiber, laxatives etc. But this is getting worse, I feel horrible and the pain is getting worse.

my surgery was 3 years ago,..for awhile complained of feeling raw,..at times sharp pains on the left side of my abdomen near the lower pelvic area,..I went to my doctor and explained my symptoms to him,..again stating it feels raw,..thinking maybe I had a UTI,..or Bladder Infection,..he did a so called test and said it was clear,..at times it feels like something has been left inside of me like a plastic utensil and at times i feel nauseated,..headaches have been more apparant,..and pain relivers don’t help,..i have to take laxatives because fecal matters and it’s weight seem to aggravate my symptoms and cause me to experience extreme heartburn with belching,..at times the bottom of my abdomen feels strange like it’s positioned where it should not be,..at times i think i should have an ultrasound done just to make sure nothing has been left inside of me at one point vaginal discharge was brown with alot of odor hasn’t been as bad but it’s still happening,..Dr’s make me feel stupid and unimportant,..i have been in the process of finding a concerning doctor who really cares.

This is scary to see all the comments made so far. I underwent Davinci robotic surgery in April 2012 to remove a large fibroid tumor/mass removed from the left side of my uterus (a procedure referred to by my OB/GYN as a myomectomy). I am now approaching 11 mos. post-op and not only is my pain worse but at times I have to drag one leg, because of the numbness and pain on that side. If the procedure was faulty or something was not done correctly, I expect some answers as to what went wrong with me.

I had a total hysterectomy in May of 2012. I was back to work, I’m a teacher, about 2.5 weeks later. I am a runner and have never had any problems. The summer of 2012 I began having major stomach issues after running, then during running. I would cramp up so badly, I had to make sure there was a bathroom in my route. It is terrible. During my last race, of 10 miles, at about the 8 mile AND after taking Imodium, I was cramping up so badly I had to stop running. After I finished, I was in the bathroom for hours after. I would scream out in pain. There’s a fair amount of blood; as my stool is maroon. I know, gross. Now that it’s winter and I’m not running outside, I”m totally constipated. It’s awful. Prior to my surgery, I was like clockwork, every morning. Also, I’ve had liver problems. I constantly have a pain in the lower, right side of my abdomen and back. I’ve had a couple of different procedures, including an endoscopy and colonoscopy. Nothing comes up. When I cough or sneeze, or clear my throat, I feel like something pops in my lower abdomen. There are times when I feel like I’m having period type of pain. It’s very upsetting because I am a super active person, I’ve three kids, including 3 year old twin boys and a 9 year old. I’m 39 a school teacher and track coach. Ugh, I just want my energy back and to be pain free.

I had a hysterectomy via Devinci in July of 2012. A few days later I was having trouble breathing and was in extreme pain. I went back to the ER. They just said the pain was because I was healing but they kept me for 4 days because of my trouble breathing. The doctor said I should follow up with my cardiologist because the breathing may have something to do with my heart. I do have trouble with my heart beating too fast sometimes but before the surgery I never had a hard time getting a deep breath. I even went to a lung specialist who did testing and cant find anything. Anyway on tuesday, I am going for a CT Scan because I have this nagging pain in my right abdomen. I am scared what they may find. It feels like a lump. I am glad I found this site because I had the hysterectomy 8 months ago and Ive read the comments and alot of people are having the same symptoms as me. Im tired, achy, in pain and depressed because I have no energy to do things with my 11 year old and 6 year old twins.

I had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. I first was urinating often. So the doctor prescribed medication for a urinary tract infection. The medicines Cipro made me break out with a rash due to allergical reaction. I have gotten pain in my right back, left lower abdominal side and terrible pain in the lower right abdominal area. I had been getting chills and sweats but no fever, feeling nauseous. I was sent for a CT scan. I started bleeding right after the CT Scan. I learned that I had a hemotoma with the possible of an abscess forming. I insisted that my doctor see me that day. Because a friend of mine that was a former Internal Medicine doctor for women looked at my CT disk and told me this could cause a major infection throughout my body. My doctor admitted me into the hospital for an Abcess. I stayed in the hospital 2 night and 3 days. They gave me 3 different types of antibiotics via IV and now I am home and taking 2 different kinds of antibiotics. I am still have left and right lower abdomnial pain. I go back to the doctor next week

My husband had Da Vinci surgery April 4th. His colon was telescoping. We didn’t know until he went in they were definitely using it….it was suppose to be a possible assisted surgery. He now has a hematoma in the ccoxy and pelvic area 10c by 7c…solid mass that can’t be drained or surgically removed because of risk of infection. Horrible abdominal pains…flatulence…burping and nothing is helping. Also now has worse bowel problems than he had before. Said he wished he’d never had the surgery. He’s also been hospitalized twice since the surgery for the pain. Someone has to help all of this because the hospitals/doctors aren’t going to. It’s like a huge cover-up…2 cat scans says nothing wrong except the clot and that will take 4 months to dissolve…..I say BULL! Anyone else that has gone through this?

Those of you with ongoing pain, did you have mesh put in? If so, it may be the mesh that is hurting you so much! Google mesh injuries. You have to get that stuff removed and have your repairs done using your own tissue. Please..look into this. The mesh can erode through your organs and make you very sick. Dr. Raz in LA is one of the few docs in the country who can completely remove the mesh and repair you using your own tissues. I’m sure there are other docs too. Please get this looked at!

I had a DaVinci complete hysterectomy in 2012. I went to a very experienced surgeon. I had some abdominal discomfort for about 3 days and urine leakage for about 10 days and minimal spotty discharge. I have to state that the pain was LESS than the wretched periods I had endured. After that, perfection. I do not regret anything about the surgery except I wish I’d been able to do if 15 years earlier. I am sorry to hear so many people have had problems. I do wonder if their surgeons had as much experience and mine did. After surviving breast cancer, I am glad not to have ovaries, a uterus, or a cervix.

The most discomfort is right under my rib cage on both sides. The only relief I get is when I lay on my side for about a hour. I have put on forty or fifty pounds since my surgery all because I can no longer stand the pain of a lot of movement. I wish I had never had it. If you have a choice please don’t do it. I was told less recovery time and I am still in pain. Not worth it!

I hope we can figure this out and stop this from happening to other people.

I had a complete hysterectomy via Da Vinci Robot back in November 2012. Ever since the surgery the pain in my lower right abdomen has never went away. I just underwent another major surgery in April of 2013 to have my appendix and gallbladder removed (this surgery was not via ROBOT!!!!). I do believe that having my hysterectomy via Da Vinci is what caused my appendicitis and gallbladder to stop functioning.

I thought I was going crazy. I googled to see if other women were having similar pains to the ones that I’ve been experiencing after a partial hysterectomy using Robotic surgery and came across this page.I had Davinci for myomectomy/partial hysterectomy in 2009 and 2010 to remove pounds of fibroids. The excruciating pain I still suffer since these two surgeries are unexplainable. I mentioned it to my OBGYN surgeon and he said it could be exposed scar and I would have to have another surgery to check it. I freaked out. I had already had two of the same surgeries so I mentioned it to my Primary Physician and he sent me for an MRI. Nothing was found on the MRI so I have resolved myself to suffering this pain for the rest of my life. I can’t exercise anymore, I get tired when I lift anything, the pain is on my right abdomen and spreads to my side and back. Will I have to live with this pain forever or is there treatment for this pain which started after I had the DaVinci surgeries.

I under went a hysterectomy 2 years ago…..it was done at one of the hospitals in northwest Oregon……. unfortunately where I went…..seems like all the hospitals are related some how……and no one believes something went wrong……I made the unfortunate decision to do the surgery with out doing any research……and no one was there when I woke up. But I remember a student Dr. Came in told me they had accidentally burned my bowl…..but that I should be okay. Still today this day I experience extreme nausea, all of the incision marks swell up like mosquito bites and get extremely warm……I have even had the marks appear and within an hour little red bumps (like hives) appear and follow my veins up…….I have pictures of it. The Dr took everything but the cervix……I didn’t get recommended hormones, I asked for them…..I was also told by nurses(not with the hospital) that they mangled my stomach……for a “less invasive surgery” But I can’t find a Dr that will tell me anything that might be related. So therefore I have been unable to get a diagnosis for any type of help……I was just curious if any one else had one done anywhere up in the Oregon area……I am in serious need of getting some kind of help to make this right =-(

I had Da Vinci partial hysterectomy in 2012. I have recently been going to the doctor to see why I keep having horrible stomach pains. I have had CT, ultra sounds, blood work done and to no avail, the doctors keep stating everything in normal. I know this is not normal! I have to make sure there is a bathroom close. My doctor stated perhaps it is something I am eating. I informed my doctor that the pain is getting worse by the day. This is ridiculous. If I new I would be in this much pain after the surgery, I would never have had it.

I had a robotic hysterectomy in 2010 and 12 hours after procedure my kidneys shut down and I became extremely ill. After several tests and procedures a week later my surgeon finally took me back into surgery to find the issue. It was discovered that my small intestine had been perforated and I was septic. I spent 8 days on life support and 14 days in ICU clinging to life. My surgeon told me several times she wasn’t sure I was going to make it. I had 6 inches of my small intestine removed. In addition. I have had several other surgeries due to hernia and bowel obstructions. My life has changed incredibly since the surgery. I was on medical leave for 1 year. I tell everyone not to go with robotic surgery. If I had known I had options I would have made a different decisions, but my surgeon presented only this option to me.

One individual remarked about the possibility that any surgically implanted mesh to address problems with prolapse could very likely be the reason for many if not most of the symptoms mentioned. That does not mean there are not also probable issues with the robotic devices as well. These issues are very complex and it is critical that you all remember a couple of key things. The first is that you should assume that the manufacturers/defendants pay people to scan these websites to read your comments when preparing their defense. Secondly, you probably should not trust any medical professional who was at all involved with any diagnosis or surgery related to this problem. Most of you should probably seek the advice of a competent attorney. Lawfirms work with physicians they can trust to conduct medical exams that will result in the truths you are dealing with. The AMA will not help you. They represent physicians. Be very careful who you trust and do not talk to much to anyone who is not with your legal team. This business can get very ugly and very psychologically painful. The defendents will do anything to discredit you. Organizations worth $300 Billion dollars do not want the bad press you may cause them and the better your attorneys are the better your chances of justice. Unfortunately it is not just about right and wrong. It is about the best representation and the strength of the merits of the case. Think with your head and not with your heart. Try to keep emotion out of it because it weakens you. It is time to be strong, be your own advocate and instead of whining (sorry about this, I am in pain too) research. You must be a warrior, not the wailing wounded.

I just had a hysterectomy with the davinci robot because of a massive fibroid. My surgery was June 12th. I had to stay in the hospital for 5 days because I was bleeding internally and had to get blood transfusions. Then after being home a week and a half I started bleeding externally. We are still in the process of trying to get that to stop and if it doesn’t it will be back to surgery. I’m kinda wondering if I should get a second opinion or if this sorta thing happens all the time.

Funny I have a pocket in my bladder too…which I was told after da vinchi that my uterus and bladder were connected by scar tissue. I have had major spells of Overheating…Not hot flashes….pain in my abdomen all the time…the past fiew weeks pain in my legs. I have heart palipations, cannot laugh or sneeze without peeing. My hands and arms tingle a lot and fall asleep. I have to urinate often. weight gain, kidney pain, etc. I am fighting depression now because I cannot be active like I always have been and I feel horrible!!!!!!. …We are all damaged by this and they are pursuing a case against the manufacturer of the robot.

I had a supracervical Da Vinci hysterectomy in October 2010 which means they only removed my uterus. I have been doing wonderfully all this time and then 2 weeks ago I started spotting and feeling crampy in my lower abdomen area. Now I’m having a lot of the symptoms that have been described above. Things just feel wrong. Bladder and bowel issues that I’ve never had before. It doesn’t sound like a CT Scan or MRI can see the causes of any of these problems from what has been written. Has anyone gotten any resolution or solutions to their issues and if so how?

The worse is not being able to have a bowl movement. It’s like my insides don’t work anymore. My kids are little and I can’t do things with then like I’d like because I’m always fatigued due to carrying so much added weight due to not going to the bathroom. I’ve always been full of energy but now I just want to rest. I can’t sleep but yet I’m always tired. Hope I can find a dr. Who can fix the problem.

I went to my Obgyn many times with vaginal bleeding and right sided pain and was told every time that I had to give my body time to heal from these surgery. On August 30 I went into the emergency room with severe right sided pain and had to have surgery later that day because I had a abscess on my right ovary and a fistula running from my right ovary to my vagina! I am in so much pain and every test they do and all the blood work comes out fine. I’m not fine at all. I’m in constant pain, peeing drains the life out of me and I’m becoming extremely depressed because I’m not the same person because these pain I live in.

I had a Davinci Robotic Myomectomy in Dec. 2012. I now have the worse pains in the world in my abdominal area. The doctor tried to say it’s because I have fibromyalgia but how strange is it that I never suffered severe pain and illness a week prior to my cycle and my cycle has become very STRONG and PAINFUL since my surgery. My body feels like it is on fire (like internal combustion is happening) and none of this until after I had my surgery. I had an infection for a long time after surgery and the Dr. (of course covering themselves again) stated it was only external but only after doing blood work after treating the infection. I could not use the restroom at the hospital and could barely walk. The nurse had to go in and empty my bladder for me because I sat on the toilet fighting to urinate for over 20 minutes and the nurse said the doctor said it was the anesthesia so everything was fine and not to empty my bladder. The nurse said she could not medically wait any longer and emptied my bladder which was full to the max. Later it took me 45 minutes to urinate and they rushed me out of the hospital even though I was not doing well. They did not wait until I had a stool or anything. After I finally had a stool 4 weeks later I thought I would die. I was sweating and again felt like my body was on fire from the inside out. I was told there is no way to find out if there were any complications from the surgery but this is going to cost me my job. I have to be off a week prior to my surgery or I go in and can barely function. And then I am out the first day or two of my cycle. My boss said that I really needed to get checked because she has never seen me like this during a cycle until after my surgery. HELP… Anyone know if there is a way to find out if the Dr. messed my insides up during this surgery. I know my OBGYN stated there is no way….Only exploratory surgery. ANYONE KNOW HOW I CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG IN THERE AFTER HAVING THIS PROCEDURE???

I had a total hysterectomy on Sept.30, 2013 (only 5 weeks ago) and I have experienced alot of the same symptoms as some of these Ladies. I had alot of fibroids and was bleeding heavy for years in which I was anemic and my gynecologist recommended a total hysterectomy leaving the ovaries intact. I myself have noticed that I cannot control my bladder and if I cough or sneeze my urine pours and I wear a regular pad to keep me dry. I am still spotting ever since I had the surgery and on the 15th of this month I was awaken from my sleep (after finally dosing off around 3:00am) and felt as if I was soaking in my underwear.I made it to the bathroom and noticed bright red blood pouring and it ran all down my legs and large blood clots were in my underwear. I had a thin pad on and my husband had to get me a pack of thick overnight pads as my bleeding was heavy all day. Now back to spotting and cannot go without a pad.I thought the hysterectomy would alleviate bleeding but still bleeding even though not pouring as earlier but still need pads. I too wake up soaking wet from sweat,my hair like I just got out of the shower. My stomach on right side burns on the inside as if on fire and under my navel too. My left side burns too but not as much as the right. I use stool softeners and never used them before the hysterectomy. I go back to see my Doctor in November for a pelvic exam (not pap) and I am wandering if I will need surgery too and I have no insurance now and I am scared. Also I noticed on both of my sides lower part of abdomen is dented in . I understand some of the organs and tissue are no longer there to support that area and it looks really ugly. I am trying to keep from taking narcotics for pain as I don’t want to get hooked on medications as I already take high blood pressure medication and a diuretic for swelling and hate to take medicines but if the pain persist I cannot bear it but so long before I gotta get some relief. After reading from alot of the comments I see I am not alone and definitely it is not in my head. God Bless all of you!!!

Hi , recently i had just gotten back on good terms with my mother and she informed me she was having a hysterectomy due to ovarian cancer and that she was having state of the art surgery using a robot. I was worried but thought nothing of the routine surgery. She went in on the 9th of march this year to have the procedure done and everything was ok. I calledher the day after( me being in california her in denver) she seemed happy as a clam but I figured that was the pain meds talking. A few days later I called back to check on her she seemed groggy and disoriented I told her to go to sleep and get rest I would call the next day. Being busy at work I didnt get a chance to call her but instead got a message on fb stating my mom was back in the hospital and I needed to call the doctor immediately. When I got on the phone the news was grimm. I had to approve a life saving surgery to remove a handfull of blood clots or else she would die.. I approved and waited unnervingly by the phone when I got the call that she had died on the table due to sepsis and blood clotting. I wish you all the best of luck in your compensation for the pain this surgery has caused you guys and will be pursuing my own compensation even though no amount of money can fix the pain that this device has caused me. RIP. Fly high and smile upon me mom ill see you when I get there.

Looked up the da Vinci surgery and I am shocked that all of these other problems I have been having is probably attributed to be the Da Vinci as well!! If you have back pain, numbness in legs trouble walkins and pain in abdominal and pelvic region, and;or anus get an MRI and check for sacrum fracture!! I am in shock!! Some relief but can still feel the hip and leg pain. Getting the run around from my obgyn too. I pray this doesn’t continue as I’m reading what has happened to the rest of you on here. It’s so unfair…we put our trust in these doctors to do the right thing and help us. My doc really pushed me to have the davinci instead of normal laparoscopic.

I had a total hysterectomy by Da Vinci, Aug 2012. I still have what we think is nerve pain. It is a little less now than it was, but like was previously said, it is depressing to have that nagging pain in my lower pelvic area. I have had numerous visits with my gyn. I have had a CAT scan done and they found nothing. Finally, the DR put me on Gabapentin. It has helped with the pain, but I started feeling really dizzy and light headed, so I have had to cut way back on the dosage even though I still have pain. The only answer my Dr. had was to go back in with a scope and “look around”! The first surgery was so expensive, there’s no way I’m going to go back in and take a chance on coming out in more pain. I too, have a limp sometimes. It feels kind of like someone poking me with a sharp object, especially if I stretch my leg on that side. I’m not one to jump into a lawsuit, but if I have to have another surgery, I certainly don’t want to pay for it.

I had a partial da vinci hysterctomy on Nov 22 2013. I also experience pain on left side and CONSTIPATION! I’ve always had bowel issues but since the surgery I to experience the need to be by a BATHROOM on many occasions. I have not experienced any problems urinating. After surgery I was always asked if any bleeding from the vagina and my answer was always NO, as I had none. I did everything my doctors instructed me to do- no heavy lifting,no baths, no intercourse until after 6 weeks. MY two week check up I felt great and my doctor told me my incisions were healing fine. I went back for my 6 week check up in which she performed an internal and I was told everything is healing fine and all restrictions were lifted. She however informed me that the first couple times of having intercourse with my husband it may hurt. I informed my doctor that my husband was working out of town and would not be home until the end of January which entitled me a few more weeks of healing. My husband surprised me and came home recently( allowing an additional 2 full weeks of recovering) and during intercourse he felt a pop inside- I felt pain and yes this time I was bleeding. So what is up with that? Has anyone else experienced that?

To no avail , the burning sensation is still there. Everything is working normally. So, I guess my next step will be going to my OB/GYN . Anyone else have this experience ?

I have had a very difficult time with my full hysterectomy. I am 32 now. I was 31 when I received my first surgery. In June of last year I had a full hysterectomy. Taken robotic assisted laparoscopic. I had pain until about 6 weeks. Mainly in abdomen on my right side. I had intercourse at 7 1/2 week out. I ended up with a tvaginal cuff tear. Putting back into surgery. Following that surgery I was in a lot of pain for about 5 weeks. Still major pain on my right side. Test came back nothing. At 5 1/2 months post op from cuff tear, it tears agin. What is going on will I never have a normal sex life? I am only 32. I am 3 weeks out now and in more pain than the prior two surgeries.HELP!!

I had a complete hysterectomy in 4-2013 with the davinci robot and I been in extreme pain ever since, although the pain is widespread, including crippling headaches, the epicenter is my pelvic area, I can barely stand upright most days. At my post op check up, the doc told me I just needed time to heal, it has now been almost a year and the pain is never ending. My family doc has sent me to a uroligist, rheumotologists and for several xrays, catscans and bloodwork, nothing found. I am going to a new gyn tomm, I hope she can help me. Had I known this would be the result, I never would have had the surgery.

I have a buldge where one of the small insisions are and it burns there and the big one burns too. I can’t sleep on my left side cause it feels like there is something burning inside. I’ve had the buldge an d I asked two Dr.s if I have a hernia and they say no. So why is it there all the time. I had my surgery December 3rd 2013.

My 12 yr old daughter ( 14 yrs old now) had the di vinci surgery to remove 3 cysts from her ovaries 2 small ones and 1 super large one, the size of a small football. My daughter went in at 8am and didnt come out til 1pm in the afternoon, the doctor came out during the surgery to tell me that its going to take longer to get the cyst out, 2 hours later it was over she went into recovery but day surgery had to close so we went to the woman health tower in our hospital she her to kinda recover. After the surgery she had 2 monthly’s in November & Dec 2012, October 2012 she had the surgery and one in July 2013 and nothing since, she is in constant pain, and the only thing that the obgyn wanted to do is give her painkillers and birth control, bc is not an option. She bloated all the time. I asked the doctor for picture and video of her surgery and I was told that he didnt do it, which he was suppose too. I hate seeing my daughter in pain and her doctors dont understand whats going on.

I had a total hysterectomy on Dec 28, 2009 I was considered a high risk case before my surgery due to blood clots and other health issues. After my surgery in the recovery room I was complaining of severe back pain. They took me to my room and I was screamimg in pain. The nurse rolled me over and my back was dark on both sides. My kidneys had been burned in half due to the DaVinci. I went back In to surgery and had stints put in. I was sent home a week later and noticed urine leaking where I was changing a pad every 10 min. Went to my urologist and found that the ureters were both severed. Had ureter surgery. I have had 15 surgeries after due to infections and rejecting the stints. I still strait cath. I also had the lower back pain and numbness in my feet and hands. I then had back surgery due to a hole in L3-4. I have 2 titanium rods 6 screws and a bridge in my spine. I also got doube lobe pneumonia and
shingles while in the hospital. I had 6 units of blood due to the blood loss and got a infection in my abdomen. I had to have a pic line and was sent home with IV therapy. The pain was so bad I did go to physical therapy and pain management. I am still dealing with complications. I have severe abdominal pain on the right side uner my chest. I have put on 80 pounds in 6 months and swelling in my hands and feet. I have insomnia for the past 5 plus years. I have seen a Internal medicine dr, gastroenterologist, 2 new obgyn dr 20 plus CT with dye , ultrasounds many trips to the ER. I have been admitted to the hospital on numerous occasions for abdominal pain and severe diarrhea. Results are unknown origin. I have been diagnosed with MS, IBS, Celiac disease, Fibromyalgia, anxiety, depression, nerve damage, renal kidney failure and anything else they can try to come up with. My life has changed Iam missing out on my childrens life and family activities do to this. It not only affects you but your whole family as well. I am constantly on a new medication that causes other symptoms like migraines etc. I can’t get out of bed somedays. When I am up for 20 min or more my abdomen becomes swollen and hard looking like I’m 10 months pregnant at 50. I get heavy legs and trouble breathing. I didn’t realize their are so many of us with the same problems and symptoms with NO answers. I am now going through the colonoscopy and ENG phase. I am on my second urologist. We need help now. I am trying to document as much info I can get from these testomonies and start sending them to doctors who will look over all of our struggles and try to get some help. Don’t give up or give in. Somedays are worse than others but we have to have faith that we can get help even if its one dr. Its a start! My heart goes out to you all!

I too had a total hysterectomy by the davinci Robot on 11/15/13 and have been in pain it feels like i am being stabbed in my ovaries. The pain is so bad it makes me feel like i am going to throw up. And i am having trouble regulating my temp. I have had ultra sounds, done physical therapy and had lots of blood work. The doctor that did my surgery told to see my regular doctor. His advice was that i should start taking anti depressents that might help with the pain,I am so confused i am having lots of problems and depression isnt one. That is just what I need more side affects to wade through. I do not have the money to keep traveling to different doctors . I have a 3 and a 5
year old that are very busy it is soo hard to keep up. I am also a yoga instructor but the pain has gotten in the way of that as well. I do not know what to do now!

Reading these posts lets me know I am not alone. When endometrial cancer was diagnosed, they couldn’t wait to push the daVinci on me. IMO I was never a candidate for such invasive surgery due to having RSD, Fibro, Chronic Fatigue etc. Strange but true, the docs and other health care workers acted like they didn’t even know what RSD is. I was never told that I would be 4 hours in a 45 degree position (a huge no-no for someone with RSD) and that I would be filled with gas. After surgery I was screaming in pain because the gas had settled around my ribcage; thought I was having a heart attack. No one bothered to even come see me. Three days after surgery I noticed venous blood coming from the incision above the naval. Called the doc and he said it was “normal” and nothing to worry about unless it didn’t stop. At my 1 week checkup when the surgeon removed one of the stitches that area erupted almost black blood like Mt. Vesuvius. She said I would need the area packed 2x a day with iodoform and that my hubby could do it (he’s an LPN). Talk about 2 weeks of total agony. The area finally healed but the keloid scar there feels like I am being stabbed repeatedly in my stomach. If I eat more than a small amount the food presses on the scar from inside, causing more pain.

Flash forward almost exactly 1 year later. Sitting and talking to relatives when suddenly the horrible burning pain of RSD engulfed my entire inguinal area and ran down my legs. I was bent over in horrendous pain. The pain stabilized after a while but I still have numerous outbreaks of the horrible burning in that area. Pre-surgery my RSD was mainly confined to my upper body.

Right after that incident huge lipomas appeared almost overnight in my upper thighs as well as scattered places near my hips. Besides being ugly, some are very painful if they are near any nerves. My pain mgt. doc says I have Dercum’s disease. IMO the surgery triggered this. It took so long to appear because the nerves had to regenerate post surgery and when they did this was the result.

I’m not done—one and one-half years later I am getting increasing pain mainly in the pelvic floor muscles but also around my waist and hips. Despite the RSD etc. I used to exercise because it made me feel mentally better and was good for my cardio system. Now if I exercise more than 3 minutes I will be in excruciating pain for at least 2 weeks. Cannot walk more than 1/2 mile without terrible inguinal muscle pain. My heating pad is now my best friend. There is more pain-it seems every day brings something new-right now my ribcage is screaming. Someone with a neuro-muscular condition should never have their pelvic (or any) muscles put in such an abnormal position for more than 15 minutes or so. IMO the daVinci position wreaked havoc with my pelvic muscles.

Oh the bloating! Now I know I am not alone. Blowing up and looking 6 months pregnant. Press down and it is hard as a rock. The few times it deflates my clothes hang on me like I lost 20 lbs.

I thought that with time things were supposed to get better but this is the worst I have been in my entire life. I cannot imagine living with the pain and the way it has made me unable to exercise or even move normally. A person with RSD should not be considered a candidate for this surgery unless absolutely necessary.

My cancer was 1/10th of an inch and enclosed within a polyp. For that they cut out all of my reproductive system. OK, so I’m past menopause but have now painfully learned that these female structures they removed support a woman’s entire pelvic area. Have a constant lower backache from Day 1-never had a backache there before. I didn’t know there was a pill that could have been tried first. To me it was killing a fly with a sledgehammer. I cry everyday and wish I had never agreed to this surgery. I wonder if the daVinci was responsible for my ugly hematoma (was a blood vessel nicked? The notes are silent on this and my subsequent hematoma and post op treatment). I have to wonder whether my internal pelvic area had been burned by this device.

My advice is to 1) be sure that you want a hysterectomy as it will change your life both health wise and quality and 2) research this robot. IMO it is not all it is cracked up to be but surgeons just love to play with their new toy. My life is now daily misery. Please educate yourselves.

I had hysterectomy that took 4 hours as it was enlarged due to fibroids and doctor said she had to dissect it from my bowel. Since I got out of surgery I have had major infection with two rounds of antibiotics and on for weeks (one for which she prescribed for a UTI which I didn’t have according to UA). Well it’s been 13 weeks and I am bleeding slightly daily and never feeling 100%. Yesterday I felt as if I had the flu but still made it through work. Like many single mothers on this website, we cannot afford to have prolonged illnesses due to inept surgeons that want to push us out the door before we are fully healed.

I have been on here multiple times since I had my surgery. Now I have progressed with my illness since the surgry. I started off with an infection after surgery. I could not pass a stool while in the hospital or after I left for months. Since then I still have stool issues. Then while in the hospital I could not urinate. They had to catheter me in order for me to urine. I tried on my own for 30 mins and when the nurse spoke with the physician they said no do not catheter. The nurse finally had to. Then it took me another 30 mins sitting on the toilet before I could use it on my own. Since then I still have issues. I went to a urologist and they said there is a little blockage in my urine stream. I was suppose to have an exploratory surgery because since the surgery I have the worst cycles. I feel up the hospital maxi pads. I am sick a week before my cycle. I lose all my energy and the week of I can’t make it to work. The week after fatigue. I have only one good week but I can’t eat. I have had difficulty eating since the surgery because I get full really fast. Now it is at the point where I can not eat at all. I am skinny ass a pea and just drinking water sometimes makes me sick if I drink a gulp. I have been in and out of the hospital. Now the last ER says they believe I have GASTROPARESIS. I get my EGD done on this Friday June 13th. I know all of this is from this robotic surgery because I never had all of these issues before. I have been home weeks now. I am not sure when they are going to make me go on disability which I cannot afford with all of this going on. I just got a promotion and will need to start traveling on August 11th. I pray that this does not affect my job any further. This is affecting my ENTIRE LIFE!!!!

I had a total hysterectomy done about 9 weeks ago (Di vincci.) Funny I found this page by trying to figure out why I’m still having pain in my right side. Every time I go to the Dr she tells me the cramping is normal but avoids the side pains. Then asks me if I want another script for norco. I’ve seen her 4 times since my surgery. (I did go back to work after only 2 weeks I was feeling great I had some pain but nothing I couldn’t handle.) After that check up I started bleeding not a lot but enough I always had to wear a panty liner. We’ve gone up on the hormones so much so I now have to take birth control because I nothing is helping the hot flashes (I’m only 32). I have to take 2 stool softeners every night and drink 3 cups a coffee every day or I won’t have a bowel movement when before I was an everyday goer. I’m tired all them time I take norco pretty much every night to help me sleep so the pain in my right side won’t wake me up the meds don’t take away the pain but make my brain stupid enough to just make me sleep. 7 weeks after my surgery I ended up in the er. I started bleeding red blood when they did the exam they found a blood clot on the outside of the cuff. After pulling it out and cleaning it up they did a cat to make sure there wasn’t an abscess there was nothing there but told me to see my on the very next day. I’m not sure if I’m making any sense but anyway the Dr keeps telling me I’m doing too much and I have to slow down, which at one point I would have probably agreed to an extent. I went back to work 2 weeks after and worked like a dog to make up hours. But since my second visit with her I slowed down a lot I got scared I would reopen since she told me it was having a problem healing. Anyway back to the er visit they told me that the right side had come apart a bit and i may need to have it re stitched when I went to see my Dr she told me I have to slow down and it’ll heal it’s not that bad. The last time I saw her she told me it was healing but I have an over growth and put some medicine on it. I have to go back again this week and am still in pain on my right side and have cramping from time to time. I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do t get me wrong I slip up every now and then because I’m not thinking about it but it’s hard having kids and working with people all day but can’t do your job either place because you’re on restriction and can’t use your abdomen. Ugh sorry that was all jumbled up, more than likely didn’t make any sense but it feels good to get it off my chest and know I’m not crazy this is really happening.

I’m just short of trying to cut the pain out my self if the pain block doesn’t work for me this time. All I do is take pain pills. I just had the Da Vinci Surgery done on July 8, 2014. I was told take it easy. I did, they tell you u can do light housework, that’s it’s good for you to walk around. So I have been, well the past week or so, I have been getting sharp shooting pains in my vaginal and pelvic area. Pains in my sides and at times around the openings that this robotic machine and doctor had went through. At time shooting pains down my leg and of course my sciatica nerve acts up. Called the doctor’s office to reschedule my appointment after the surgery since apparently my doctor has scheduled himself surgery that day. As I’m rrescheduling, I asked to speak to the nurse. She stated that I need to take it easy, I have been doing too much. Just walking around, laying, or even sitting I’m experiencing these pains and waiting patiently as I can to go to my first appointment after my surgery which is this Friday Aug. 1, 2014. I Google to see if maybe I have been doing too much and ran across all these comments and now worried and in fear for more problems due to this surgery. I have too many medical bills as is and have been out of work for a long time prior cause of my issues I was having before this surgery. My husband is trying his best to do what he can to support our family. We have 6 children and we cannot keep affording all they medical bills nor do I or we need more. I’m soon going to be talking to my previous job about going back as soon as the doc releases me now I’m even more nervous then ever with the symptoms I keep having after the surgery. Ugh!!

I also had Da Vinci surgery in 2013 for a lung tumor. When I came to after the surgery, I was on so much pain medication I could hardly think straight. I had so many holes, cuts and tubes in me I inquired as to why this was. My family doctor informed me that the surgery with the robot was unsuccessful due to the location of the tumor? Again, why? The surgeon instructed me the robot would be better for the type of laparoscopic surgery I needed. I was stunned by the sizes of the gash in my back, and all the large drainage tubes. My care in the hospital totally sucked and I ended up having to go to the restroom by myself on the first day out of intensive care, where I then felt a small pop. That was my 1 of 2 metal stitches on the lung popping open. After that, 15 minutes later, here comes the nurse 2:00am, and I informed her that I already went. Needless to say, my lung collapsed and they discharged me saying that I indeed had a collapsed lung and fluid seeping from where stitch popped opened. They told me it did not matter if I was in the hospital or at home, the damage was done. I had 13 pain scale and a scrappy little blond nurse who threatened me every pill with, I am going to throw this away if you don’t quit crying long enough to take this. I now have what I call Fibromyalgia, from what I now know to be permanent nerve damage. No doctor would back me on it. My pain doc just put me on nerve pain med. What made this all so unbelievable for me is the fact of all the lawsuits going on with the Da VINCI ROBOT and I was never informed. Why are they pushing the thing when all it does is mess people up?

I had a robotic-assisted total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and was told that they had put one stent in side me, but I found out when I was reading the medical report that they put in more then one stent. Doctor failed to tell me that they did not take them out…..I flat line not one but two times went into a comma for a few days, shortly after that my whole body shook & head went side to side. One min after that extubation went from 100 percent down to 60 percent. Anesthesiologist went to go get my boy friend in the waiting room told me that the surgery went well, but that was a lie. At the time when things went down hill for me the Anesthesiologist left me there dying she grab her purse and cell phone and ran and did not look back. She failed to put that in the medical report as well…The doctor that did the surgery had cover up what really happen that day to me. To top it off he said I was his charity case that the reason why he did the surgery. This is just part of the story it get worse that, but for now am going to leave it off from here.

If a doctor tell you that this surgery will help you in any way don’t believe what they have to say there only thinking about there pocket book. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU LET SOME ONE TOUCH YOU. BECAUSE IF YOU DON’T YOU WILL REGRET IT BIG TIME…..

I have a robotic hysterectomy in May. 9 days later admitted to hospital for what I now know was renal colic. CT scan showed a hole in my ureter. I had a stent placed and removed at 6 weeks. Said it was a burn, not a cut. 2nd stent placed and removed 6 weeks later. Now told I have scar tissue in ureter, dialated kidney and need reimplantation surgery, which will probably require a large incision. I am out of sick leave. My daughter’s wedding is in a few weeks and I’m scared I will be in hospital then. I’ve had to pay all these bills for the additional surgeries. I called 3 lawyers and no one will take my case. Has anyone had any success with this? From this site, any site or local attorneys?

I was doing well until recently. I am now having left and right side abdominal pain and severe constipation that I think is causing nausea, weakness and overall fatigue. I have not yet seen a doctor because I don’t know what kind of doctor to see. I have been researching and came across this site and many sites where others are experiencing the same issues. It appears that there is great difficulty in finding a cause. This makes me very nervous.

I’m also having problems with vaginal oder, a fishy smell, this has changed my life completely. The pain in my abdomen is so excruciating, till I can’t take care of my husband satisfiedly in bed. (Lost) tired of this pain)!

I am considering myself extremely blessed after reading all of these horrific accounts. You are all in my prayers. I had a hysterectomy in Nov of 2009 with the DaVinci robot. I researched it for months prior and found a specialist that had done many of them and was highly respected. I had the surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work on the next Monday. No pain, no side effects and have never regretted it. Was so sick before the surgery due to heavy periods every 15 days, passing out, sleep apnea due to severe blood loss, high blood pressure, vertigo, heart problems and other issues as well. The surgery for me was a God send and after it I had complete relief of all those issues. It totally gave me my life back. It makes me so so sad to read that it has ruined so many other lives. Even though it was great for me I would never recommend it after reading all of these accounts.

I had my partial hysterectomy 3wks ago because i was in so much pain. My left ovary was left and everything else taken out. But its like my right ovary is still there because im still in pain in that area and also pain almost like its in my bones. My bladder hurts and i always have to go to the bathroom to pee! Even if its not alot i still have to go and often! It constantly feels full and it burns, not when i urinate but my bladder itself burns!! It also hurts to have a bowel movement! I dread having to go because its hurts so bad to and even after i go. I have been having to take stool softeners and laxative since the surgery because i cant go at all without them. I tried to take myself off of them but then i didnt go for 3 days so i began taking the softeners again. Reading all of your issues scares me terribley considering its been even longer since yall have had your procedure. Will i now be stuck with this as well?! I already deal with tumors in my back and horrible lesions in my lower back!

Oh my gosh, I’m horrified! I got on line trying to understand why I’ve continued to bleed and suffer extreme lower pelvic pain on my right side, when I came across ALL these alarming and frightening statements from all of you. I too had a complete hysterectomy with Divinci assist robot. I couldn’t stop bleeding and I continued to have bad menstrual type pains for several weeks out to where I had to go to my Gynecologist for a checkup. After being told it was a stitch that didn’t seem to want to heal, she dabbed silver oxide cream and placed me on vaginal estrogen. I continued to bleed and cramp worse. After going again and hearing it was just the stitch, I was beginning to get worried. I didn’t feel good and kept getting weaker to the point it was a struggle to walk around my home. Again, another appointment was made, and as I getting ready, I saw massive blood in the toilet, on my wash cloth, and all over my towel. I knew I was hemorrhaging, so I ran thru the house to call my husband, dripping blood all over the floor. My husband immediately runs me to my doctor’s office where I hemorrhaged severely and had to be transported by ambulance to the hospital for an emergency surgery. Apparently the Divinci knicked an artery, which was located right under the stitch that never wanted to heal. Needless to say, I’m still having pain in my lower right abdomen, right where my ovary used to be. I never feel good any more. I’m weak, tired, limp, lower back pain….can’t do anything like I could before this Divinci surgery. Now, I’m being sent to have a MRI next week. Sounds like a repeat to most of you. Am I to think I’m damaged goods now? Will I ever be myself ever again? Will I ever stop hurting? I still have another 2 weeks of healing and I’m beginning to wonder if I will even be able to make love to my husband…normally?

Discomfort, yes. It took 2 or 3 hours for my surgery and my doc used an antibitotic before i went into surgery and while i was in surgery. I guess my being only 4 days out i will have to wait and see. I pray i dont have any of these issues. I am only 33 years old and am a newly wed.

Hi, There everyone as I sit here and read all the comments that you lady’s right about I’ve been there and still going through the same things your going through till this day. Am very sorry for what your feeling and to let you know your not alone. I’ve gone to so many doctors like you all have and most if not all the the one’s Ive seen are a joke, but my boyfriend has a family member that know the right doctor that can help me at first when my boyfriend told me about his family member telling me about the doctors he know because he work with them I was thinking OMG another joke for a doctor for sure, but I was wrong they have help me more then you think of and am thank full for the help that was giving to me and now more then anything. I have permanent damage for the rest of my life because of what the doctors did to me and there trying to cover up about what happen to me the day of the surgery so now I plan to fight for what they did to me. I got burned just like all you lady’s have and I have no feeling to the right side of my body and am not able to walk right at all. I have pain as well on the right side of my body as well. The doctors try to give me pain medicine more then once, but refuse to become a pill popper head, so I deal with the pain on on own and I have to have another surgery soon to have a device put in side me that will help with the pain more then anything, plus I was told by a very good doctor that am seeing at this time that if I would to take pain medicine that would hurt more me more anything & plus it would damage the rest of my of my organs in the long run. What am trying to tell everyone do your home find a good doctor that will be honest with you and not hurt you again. Get a copy of all your medical records the day of your surgery to fine out what happen to you that day and then take to an attorney that you trust that can help you by giving you some answer for you because you might have a law suit case. And make sure that the doctor did not put any type of mesh device in side you and if they did it will have to come out for sure. Type in Google Mesh Device and am pretty sure you will fine all lot of information that you don’t know about, but that information will help you for sure.

I am so sorry to see all who are suffering here! I ended up here because I am disabled with an injury caused by a failed surgery and trying desperately to find someone that cares enough to help us crusade to get the medication that our doctors write for us to help with our pain! Pain medication in Florida is just a dream for most! Even with a prescription from a pain specialist! How can that be? For whatever reason it is rarely available any longer!
All I can think of right now is that there are so many people in pain because of the quacks and devices that are approved for these quacks to use on us which they refer to as medicine! But when they leave us in pain, we are on our own! God help us all!

Here is the thing, (and I had a partial robotic hysterectomy) why, they call it partial is ridiculous. I can say this was the singlular worst decision of my life. I live in California where this crazy machine was invented. I had my surgery in Laguna California. I went in a healthy 45 year old woman with fibroids. I came out more like a 70 year old with major nerve damage and damage to my abdomen and my left leg, etc. I have been to so many doctors. No one has answers, just like you. The doctor that did my surgery, he covers everything up. My medical records are not even accurate. No pain meds the first entire day after surgery. This machine was first developed to use on soldiers to keep them from bleeding until they could get further inland to get help. This machine was never intended to be used the way it is. Intuitive is making money hand over fist. And read your medical record, there might have even been Intuitive Sales Reps at your surgery—oh yes, they come to see your body torn apart. Cheap entertainment? I suppose. I never consented to it. The whole thing with this company and the doctors associated with it is very fishy. They all know it hurts people, yet money is more important, so until consumers speak out, they will continue to use it. It is also used because it is easier on the surgeons, not the patients. Also, the position they put you in while doing surgery can cause nerve damage too. You are not alone, keep trying to find answers. I cannot write the name of the doctor here but wish I could. I know he does several surgeries each week and is hurting numerous women every month. I wish I could stand outside his office with a sign: Stay away from Dr. XXX and his robot. But I cannot I would be sued.

I’m seeing everyone’s comments and its so sad that a surgery you think is going to make you well turns into a nightmare and changes your life forever. I I had a hysterectomy via Davinci on January 18, 2011 and my life was changed forever as well as my families . I was employed for 27 years at the hospital I had my surgery at and my physician of over 25 years was on staff. The hospital had to pay for this expensive piece of equipment so the DaVinci Robot was promoted nonstop by the hospital and physicians as State of the Art, minimally invasive, less risk of infection etc, etc. So of course I believed I’d have the surgery, recover and resume my life. I was extremely healthy except for uterine fibroids, anemia from bleeding and some mild hypertension. Three days after my hysterectmy I developed a fever and abdominal pain so my physician prescribed an antibiotic. Two days later I ended up in the ER which turned into a post op surgery on January 25, 2011. I had sepsis, a complete bowel obstruction, abscesses all over my abdomen in the site of the hysterectomy and my appendix were removed due to early appendicitis. I was hospitalized for 8 days with a feeding tube. It was horrible and I would have died if I hadn’t had the emergency surgery. . The worst is my doctor tried to make it out that this thing happens sometimes. The surgeon who saved my life said to my husband. I’m sick of cleaning up messes from those D… Robots Long story short I never have recovered and after the second surgery I started to have extreme bowel an bladder issues. I never slept due to these issues. Shortly after I started passing out. I developed autonomic dysfunction which affects all systems in your body and only returned to work for a very short period of time but ended up on LTD The process of disability is so agonizing when you are sick. I lost a career I loved, I have been in and out of the hospital at least 10 times. My immune system was destroyed I now have IBS, severe bladder issues, autonomic dysfunction, acute renal failure, diabetes, MS “which was in a dormit state” but became active due to my immune system being compromised, so now I am on monthly infusions.
My gallbladder stopped functioning so had to have it removed with another surgery and my stomach doesn’t empty properly as well as extreme pain, weakness and fatigue. The most difficult part is what my family has been through. My daughter who is special needs crys and Is so afraid I am going to die everytime I’m sick. I try very hard to be strong for her as well as my son and husband . When I read what everyone has posted it is so sad that those who developed this piece of equipment and promoted it, do not care how many lives this has effected. The sad part for me is the hospital I worked for and the physician I trusted tried to brush it under the rug and shame on the manufacturer for selling a piece of equipment that has hurt so many! Unfortunately unless you die no one wants to take a case They might think twice if it was them or one of their family members that were experiencing these life altering complications via Da Vinci.

Last december I had my gallbladder removed with the robot. As soon as I woke up, I knew something was wrong. The pain in my lower abdomen was unbearable. Narcotics had little effect. I just knew that I had been hurt badly. Like so many others, doctors dismissed my complaints. Surgery is painful right? Eventually a CT was ordered, with contrast and dye. It was normal. Now my instincts tell me it’s scar tissue, otherwise known as adhesions. Everything the robot does puts a person at risk for this and it can’t be seen unless you’ve been cut open. After all this time I’m finally having laparoscopy done to check for adhesions. They can become very painful over time and the pain is worse with walking, etc. Soon I’ll know for sure. I hope this helps someone out there. God bless.

OMG I empathize with all of you. Over a year ago I had to have emergency hysterectomy and myoectomy and a lot of adhesions and scar tissue repaired. The surgeon stated that the only option I had was the Da Vinci robot. Since then I’ve had excruciating pain in both legs hips and the same pains you’ve described with extreme abdominal pain and cramping. I feel like I still have my female parts and cramping so hard like it’s another period. Yet there’s nothing there since I had the full hysterectomy. I kept calling my surgeon and AFTER I REQUESTED THE OP REPORT, he tells me I need to go to a general surgeon in two weeks so they can do a laparoscopic surgery on me!!!!!!! I was so angry because he could have done my hysterectomy that way but said it wasn’t an option then suddenly wants to pass me off to a general surgeon because he failed to tell me he lacerated me during my surgery and like my daughter said, “mom he knows he messed you up and is trying to get rid of you as fast as possible.” I agree. But after research I’ve done I’ve discovered that particular robot company admitted to defective electrodes and replacement to hospitals yet no hospitals are changing them because then they’d have to admit fault !!!!! I have been on pain meds and ibuprofen and taking supplements to just exist laying in bed with a heating pad 24/7/365 because of this God forsaken pain that no doctor wants to treat or help with or admit that this robot has damaged us for life. I’m praying daily for total restoration of healing and I pray that for you all as well. I guess I missed the deadline to get an attorney to help me. I’m not able to drive except about a mile or so unless I absolutely had to in pain so my daughter who is 17 has to drive me everywhere and I am getting to where I can’t walk anymore. I too have a limp when trying to walk a little bit around my house to keep from getting blood clots in my legs but then I have pain like axes hitting my kidneys and abdominal cramping so badly it’s right back to bed with my heating pad that only minimally helps. I have had pain prior to this surgery but NOTHING like this. I can’t do anything anymore and I used to put out flowers for my son’s Angel Gardens I made him but I can’t even do that anymore and have no help. I pray someone who truly sincerely cares will help us all and God will restore our health in Jesus name.

Wondering what I can do to figure out if it’s just scar tissue or something else. A friend of mine ended up with an umbilical hernia after surgery. He has mesh though from his type of surgery. July 22, 2015 I had a hysterectomy with DaVinci Robot. I have never experienced so much pain in all my life. I have a very high tolerance for pain, so when asked about my pain level, I didn’t know how to answer. But, today, July 25, I can honestly say that on a scale of 1 to 10, that my pain level is definitely a 15. Such intense pain, I never endured when I gave birth to my children. I am just praying that this all is part of the healing process and that I will soon get my strength back. I have never had surgery except for my Breast Cancer Lumpectomy. I am 77 years old and don’t really understand what is going on with this pain. I have resisted taking the pain meds, but, at least then I get some much needed rest. I pray that the previous letters in regard to this DaVinci Robotic are some what overstated. I am a 6 1/2 year Breast Cancer Survivor and then started bleeding and was checked out by OBGYN Doctor. He said the DaVinci was less invasive and everything would heal much faster. It does feel better with heating pad on the area. Much better than the ice. But, don’t know if I should be using either. I am going to do what ever makes me feel better. Thanks for my therapy session. I am not bleeding and no other discharge issues at this point in time. Many folks are praying for me. I had my surgery in Iowa City on Wednesday July 22, home on July 23 and so very itchy on July 23. I was advised to take Benedryl for the itching. Again, thanks for listening. I had this surgery because I was recently diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. My uterus, falopian tubes, Ovaries, Cervex and lymph nodes were removed. I was told there were 5 holes, because my abdomen area is so small. I knew the cancer had to come out and will know the results when the pathology report comes back. I am thankful that I didn’t read all these letters before my surgery, but then again probably would have been better, at my age of 77, to have quality of life rather than quantity. PS, I still haven’t had a bowel movement either.

I had a total hysterectomy using the davinci method in March 2012. I was having a lot of pain on my right side after the surgery. They kept telling me it was sciatica. In Sept. 2012, I ended up in the ER still having pain on the right side and redness and swelling in the pelvic area down m leg. I had a blood infection by that time. The guy that did the cat scan said that the infection had been there for quite sometime….so NOT sciatica. It is now Aug. 2015. The right side doesn’t hurt like the infection, but there is still pain. My left hip is not right either. Is it, just getting older…or does it relate back to surgery/infection? I stay active, but sometimes, most of the time, it is so frustrating.

You are SO right. These doctors are rude and dispassionate. If you have ANY kind of pain they think you are an addict, an anxiety case, or a hypochondriac. I have been in pain since my hysterectomy in late September. I had an MRI yesterday for a vertebral deformity and the strangest thing occured. The MRI started and I got very sudden sharp stabbing pains in the exact spot that my pain has been since the da vinci hysterectomy, the right side below my rib cage and next to my belly button. On a different topic, I went to the ER last year for chest pain and severe heart palpitations. I am on a high dose of synthroid because I had thyroid cancer in 2003 and had to have a complete thyroidectomy. Well the ER doc tells me I have anxiety and should see a psychologist. I told him that I know what anxiety feels like because , yes, I do have an anxiety disorder. But this was different and not anxiety. He sent me home. I continued to have the racing heart for a few months until I collapsed in my living room. Turns out I had AVNRT and needed an ablation!. These doctors disgust me.

I also have had severe abdominal pain on the lower right side and the pain is now worse after having Da Vinci surgery for Sacrocolpopexy. I have a burning in my lower abdomen when I urinate and most of the time I cannot empty my bladder. My life for the past 5 years has been full of constant pain. I so no end to this and I do not want a 5th surgery.

Dr. Jeffry Spier used the da Vinci robot to remove my kidney in February 2016. I was having cramps in the area and bloating. He said to do sit-ups. While in recovery I went into afib and chf and he said that he had done his part and left the hospital. Now I am experiencing IBS syndrome. I knew it was beginning to start because of a continual change over time. I have not informed any doctors. I no longer trust any of them. I also have numbness in my left leg. Who knows what those inept people did during surgery.

Two days out. I wish I had do I d this prior to surgery. I called the surgeon’s office about pain at NY left festival. I had a bilateral hernia which was treated with a double da vinci operation using two types of mesh. I also, for the first time in my life, can feel food going thru my intestines. Anything more than soup or water hurts. The lady at The doctor’s office kept call I g it nausea. I kept telling her it is not. IT IS A PAIN.She told me to take the opioids the doctor prescribed. I told her that if this is normal and will go away in a day or 2 I will suffer thru it. She then told me she will get a hold of the doctor and see what he says.
I sure am praying for all of you.
Hoping that from back in 2011 when these statements start, that they got whatever problem they had fixed.
My doctor advised of some of your listed side effects, puffy eyes and so due to inversion durring surgery, but stated they were all temporary and would go away.

I had 3 surgery’s in 2 days gone thru so much pain woke up to a stoma bag and they are talking about a 4 surgery in 8 w0ks to reconstruct my colon . I just don’t understand why they continue to do this procedure if it’s such a risk . I cant image how I going to heal from my da vichy if I am just concentrating on my colon for now. I can’t imagine the complications of da vinchi . Let’s keep us inform.

I had what was suppose to be a simple hysterectomy but ended up bleeding 13 hours internally, got 6 units of blood transfusion and second surgery next day for c section. Was over medicated and in a induced coma. Very bad psychosis with breathing tube down my throat. I have my file of over 2 thousand pages, for 15 days in the hospital. Went home with oxygen and walker and having nurse and physical therapy coming to my home for 2 months. Have 5 months left for the 2 years limitation. But no one will help me. But my kids were told it doesn’t look good. They all flew to Florida from N.Y and 2 todlers.

On Dec 19, 2019 I had a partial hysterectomy with the da Vinci Robotic system. I am an ICU nurse and 53 at the time of my surgery. Immediately after recovery I felt a sharp pain to my left should and right leg. At my one week post op appt with the surgeon, I jokingly asked if he had dropped me because my left arm and right leg were killing me. He said it was due to the positioning of my body. When the da Vinci device is used, your body is practically upside down (trendelenberg position). My surgery last 5 hours. After nerve tests and two MRI’s they have found two tears in my left shoulder. I’m confident I have brachial plexus nerve damage as well. I believe I sustained a “crush injury” caused by the weight of my body against the pads while up in trendelenberg position for five hours. These and similar cases are well documented on the internet. I now have constant pain, burning, numbness and weakness in my left shoulder, arm and hand. I’m seeing and orthopedist next week for options; cortisone shots or surgery. I am seeking damages because in 2014, Intuitive Systems who creates the da Vinci Robotic System set aside $67 million for 3000 filed cases against the robotic system. Look up da Vinci lawsuits. My hysterectomy went well but I have collateral damage. God bless and good luck to all.

I had a partial hysterectomy in October 2012. After 1 week at home, I had to go to the ER, because I had such severe abdominal pain, that was radiating around my back. The hospital told me it was a back problem. I know it was no back problem. I told my surgeon and he wanted to go right back in and re do it. I said no, I am not healed from this surgery yet. I have been to GI doctors, and to no avail, everything is normal. My stomach blows up everyday like a basketball. And it hurts to walk long distances. I know in my heart and soul that the surgery went bad. I even asked if he may have left a sponge or a stitch may have popped and he said not really. I have been arguing my point about this to my husband and he is totally frustrated with the entire deal. I went back to the surgeon and had already got a CT scan, MRI, and a colonoscopy. I have right abdominal pain and back pain. This is bloating has been ongoing. My surgeon says that it could be scar tissues and that the mesh could of came off. Now he wants to go in again and put another hole in me to repair mesh and take out scar tissue if he can. He said if the scar tissue is too much and out of his scope, I will have to go to a general surgeon. So that is another invasive surgery. Why isn’t anyone paying attention to this, and realizing that these surgeries went bad and screwed a lot of women up. This is a crime. I am walking around with who knows what is wrong inside me. I need someone who can fix this once and for all.

I’ve suspected that all the pain I’ve had on lower right abdomen and back and right progressive shoulder pain might be related to hysterectomy. About 8 months after surgery the excruciating pain started In right abdomen ovary/appendix area. Achy Pain in both hips and right shoulder pain as well. After going to every specialty, I’m clear with Ortho problems as. gI issues. What doctor investigates this? Every comment I read is my story. The pain radiates down my right leg and have trouble going upstairs because of pain in right side. Feels like I get cramps in vagina sometimes too. Which dr will consider that this is the problem? Neurologist? What are the steps to remedy this?!

i am 69 yo male with Hx of DM, HTN and OA. Recently a large polyp identified as cancerous by gastroenterologist. polyp was located at mid level of descending colon, was told it needed to be removed as soon as possible . A colorectal surgeon was contacted and as told surgery was best done by robotics less risk and less time in the hospital . after four weeks post-op a sudden pain began to my right breast radiating to my left breast with a stabbing burning sensation. On my right side pain radiates to my back, i became concern due to pain on my left side and went to ED was admitted with cardiac protocols and found negative results on cardiac conditions. was referred to cardiologist . during stay i was found to be very anemic and was given Iron via IV infusion. was told anemia sometimes caused nerve pain like what i described, Dr also stated some times during these type of surgeries a nerve pathway can be nicked and cause neuropathy pain. surgeon was contacted during my hospital stay and ordered a CT scan. CT scan was done, was released from hospital with iron pills for my anemia and was told surgeon will contact me when he reads the scan. was contacted a week later and was told CT scan was negative by surgeon, stated it was negative and if pain continued to go to ED for evaluation. have been having pain for a month now, a pain that Tramadol, Tylenol , or Ibuprofen controls .

I too have been experiencing pressure in the lower right portion of my abdomen when emptying my bladder. I spoke with my OB/Gyne who performed a robotic da Vinci hysterectomy September 2019 who advised me to do a nine step procedure of a lidocaine mixture and I still am experiencing pressure & pain 23 months later. I had to pay for the nine lidocaine treatment out of my pocket and got no relief. The OB/Gyne says its probably because of all the scar tissue and fusing of organs that he had to work through and that it takes time to heal….I’m sure he didn’t mean over 2 years though.

I recently had a Davinci Robotic Hysterectomy. Im 8 weeks post op. I had alot of scar tissue, fibroids and endo removed. I thought this surgery was supposed to solve my problems. Instead it created new ones.

Left shoulder pain. Neck pain. Almost daily.
Stomach pain and bloating ( sporadic).
Lower right side pelvic pain where my ovary was.

Right side upper back pain cramping occasionally

    Lungs sometimes hurt.

Left side under ribs hurt sometimes

    Daily menstraul type cramps

Had one full week of green diarrhea and adominal pain. Not sure why.

Right after the surgery i had what looked like burn marks on inner thighs. Vag lips were swollen for two weeks.

Anytime I walk 2 miles I have pressure in vag area. And pelvic pain. Afraid to have sex. Anxiety now. I watched “The Bleeding Edge” on Netflix explaining how bad this robot is and I’m even more terrified.

I had bladder prolapse repair and partial hysterotomy in Jan 2009. I woke with FOUR server burns the size of 50 cent pieces around my private area. 2 on each side. I endured excruciating pain for many many years. It totally changed my life and my marriage. Dr. Hoyte and the hospital claimed they had no idea what happened. I was also made to pay for daily treatment for burn recovery. I tried multiple lawyers but was told it was a teaching hospital and there was nothing I could do. I thought it was exclusively doctor negligence but am now learning it is also a defect of the davinci equipment. The Dr. is still partially responsible since he knew I had been burned during surgery and pretended not to know!! It has been 14 years and I still feel the pain everyday! Sitting for long periods of time aggravates my scars and I have nerve damage. I was not warned about any of these dangers. I was asked to sign to allow for video of the procedure but when asked for a copy they claim it did not exists. SHAME on all the doctor’s that continue to use this equipment that is a known danger to their patients. How do we stop them and how do we get compensated for ruining our lives?
