$5.9 Million – Maryland – Pit Bull Attack Leading to Death

A 16 month old child was viciously attacked by an aggressive pit bull which was kept in an apartment of a family friend. As a result of the pit bull attack, the child suffered fatal injuries. A injury claim was brought against the landlord and owner of the apartment building for allowing the pit bull with known vicious propensities to be kept in the building. A lawsuit was filed for our client in Baltimore City Circuit Court for injuries sustained in the attack, emotional distress suffered by the mother and a wrongful death claim for the family. A verdict of nearly $6 million was awarded for the injuries. The verdict was appealed by the defendants all the way to the Maryland Court of Appeals, where the verdict was upheld and new case law was established in Maryland regarding landlord liability for animal attacks.

$100,000.00 – Harford County, Maryland
Dog Bite resulting in Facial Scarring to 6yr old girl

Our client was a six year old girl who was being watched by a babysitter when a neighbor’s dog attacked her and bit her face. As a result of the dog bite attack, she sustained scarring to the face which required plastic surgery.

Prior to litigation, the claim was settled for a total present value of $100,000.00. Half was paid at the time of settlement and the remaining half was paid into a structured annuity for guaranteed payments once the child reaches 18 years old. After the increased payments that will be made from the structured settlement, the total of all payments will exceed $150,000.00.

$65,000.00 – Baltimore County Maryland

Our client an 11 years old boy who suffered scarring to the neck and shoulder as a result of a pit bull attack. Approximately $7,000 in medical expenses were incurred for treatment, including minor plastic surgery. Prior to trial, a settlement of $65,000 was reached with the owner’s insurance company.

$22,500 Timonium, Maryland
Neck and Back Injury from Horse

Our 78 year old client was entering a Baltimore County, Maryland race track when he was struck and knocked to the ground by a race horse which had broken free from its handlers. As a result of the injury, our client sustained injuries to his neck and back as well as a head injury requiring hospital treatment. Neither the owner of the horse, the trainer of the horse or the owner of the race track were willing to accept liability or make any offers of settlement before trial. Suit was filed in The Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Once our animal attack personal injury lawyer was able to obtain several admissions from a track employee which demonstrated that defective equipment had been used to handle the horse, and that gates were not properly secured.
