Fixodent contains zinc to act as a bonding agent and to block odor. Although Proctor & Gamble suggests that the amount of zinc a Fixodent user would inject is safe, high amounts can be absorbed through the gums or swallowed, upsetting the balance of zinc and copper in the body.
Excessive zinc consumption (hyperzincemia) leads to copper depletion (hypocupremia), which is known to cause neurological damage generally referred to as neuropathy.
