Fortunately, early reports indicate that only one serious injury has been suffered in this train derailment. However, the ultimate impact of the crash on Rosedale residents and others in the area is not immediately known.

The blast destroyed several nearby buildings and a resulting fire is expected to burn through the night. Early concerns of potential contaminants resulted in a hazardous materials team being dispatched to the scene. The 45-car train reportedly was carrying sodium chlorate in at least one of the 12 cars that derailed in the accident. Sodium chlorate is classified as a hazardous material. It is used as an oxidizer.

While officials have indicated that there is no immediate health risk and only a limited area evacuation order has been issued, the lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are continuing to monitor this situation and are providing free legal consultations for area residents and business owners who may have been impacted.
