In recent years, a number of individuals have suffered severe and debilitating deep joint infections following hip replacement or knee replacement surgery, often resulting in the need for multiple surgical procedures and resulting in permanent pain and suffering. In many cases, these infections may be caused by side effects of a forced-air warming blanket used during the procedure.

3M Bair Hugger warming blankets have been in place in most operating rooms throughout the United States, providing forced air warming to control body temperatures during surgery. However, the lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. represent individuals nationwide who are now pursuing a potential hip surgery infection lawsuit or knee surgery infection lawsuit, alleging that the device caused bacteria or contaminants from the operating room floor to enter the sterile surgical field.

A video posted to YouTube at least five years ago by the makers of a safer alternative design for surgical warming provides a great illustration of the problems caused by forced air warming used by the 3M Bair Hugger:

Infection problems following hip surgery or knee surgery may occur if a Bair Hugger blanket disrupts the airflow in the sterile surgical environment, potentially depositing pathogens and bacteria into patients’ open wounds.

The lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. provide free consultations and claim evaluations for individuals who have been diagnosed with an infection after hip or knee replacement surgery since 2009. The facts and circumstances surrounding the infection will be reviewed, and our attorneys can help determine whether a Bair Hugger forced air warming blanket may have been used during your procedure.
