In April 2007, health officials advised that arsenic has been present in the soil of Baltimore City Swann Park for decades. Those who lived in the area or visited the park could have been exposed to the dangerous chemical, which increases the risk of cancer. New cases are no longer being accepted. This page is maintained for informational purposes only.

The arsenic contaminating Swann Park came from a factory owned Allied Chemical, now known as Honeywell Industries. The Maryland personal injury lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. previously reviewed potential lawsuits on behalf of individuals diagnosed with cancer or other serious injuries which may have been caused by the arsenic at Swann Park in Baltimore City, Maryland.

ALLIED CHEMICAL FACTORY AT SWANN PARK

The Allied Chemical factory was located at 200 Race Street, directly next to Baltimore City’s Swann Park. Prior to the closing of the factory in 1976, Allied Chemicals produced insecticides, herbicides and other products that contained arsenic at the factory. Harmful arsenic was spewed from the factory through torn dust collectors, polluting the surrounding region and creating a potentially fatal danger for thousands of people who used the park over the past 30 years.

Allied Chemicals purchased Honeywell Industries in 1999, and adopted the Honeywell name. Internal documents indicate that the company was aware that dangerously high levels of arsenic were found in the soil in 1976, but these results were hidden from government health officials.

Despite knowledge that dangerous levels of arsenic were present, no warnings were provided to visitors of Swann Park and no attempts were made to clean up the contamination. When high levels of arsenic were confirmed to remain in the soil, Baltimore City health officials closed Swann Park on April 19, 2007.

SWANN PARK LAWYERS

The arsenic poisoning lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. previously reviewed potential Baltimore City Swann Park lawsuits for individuals who have suffered serious injuries or been diagnosed with cancer after previously spending significant time at or around the park. The circumstances surrounding any injury will be reviewed to determine if the problems could have been caused by the negligent conduct of Allied Chemicals, now known as Honeywell.
