Individuals who purchased ReliOn Insulin Syringes from Wal-Mart stores or Sam’s Clubs since August 1, 2008 may have received syringes that contain two and a half times the intended dose of insulin. Approximately 471,000 potentially defective Sam’s Club and Walmart Insulin Syringes have been recalled. Potential ReliOn Insulin Syringe lawsuits are being evaluated for individuals who suffered an adverse reaction or serious injury that resulted in medical treatment.

>>FDA LINK: ReliOn Insulin Syringe Recall

The FDA posted notice of the ReliOn Insulin Syringe recall on their website late last night. All of the recalled insulin syringes were labeled as “ReliOn 1cc, 31-gauge, 100 unites for use with U-100 insulin”. They are identified with lot number 8133900. The manufacturer of the syringes, Tyco Healthcare Group, LP, stopped distributing the potentially defective insulin syringes on October 8, 2008, but they could have been sold after this date at Walmart or Sam’s Clubs.

The FDA has urged patients and healthcare providers to carefully check all of their supplies of insulin carefully for these recalled ReliOn Insulin Syringes. Use of a defective syringe which contains higher doses than intended, could cause an insulin overdose, with symptoms like:

  • Very Low Blood Sugar Levels (Hypoglycemia)
  • Headaches
  • Irregular Heartbeat
  • Increased heart Rate or Pulse
  • Sweating and Tremors
  • Nausea
  • Anxiety
  • Death

According to the recall notice, some syringes labeled for use with U-40 insulin were mixed with syringes labeled for use with U-100 insulin during the production process. All of the syringes were then packaged individually in boxes labeled as 100 unites for use with U-100 insulin.

Approximately 16,500 Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club customers who purchased the syringes in stores or through their websites have received letters notifying them of the insulin syringe recall.

WALMART INSULIN SYRING RECALL LAWYERS

The product recall lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are investigating and reviewing potential Walmart insulin syringe lawsuits for individuals who have suffered an adverse reaction that resulted in medical treatment after using ReliOn Insulin Syringes that were purchased since August 1, 2008.

Although Wal-Mart stores and Sam’s Club Pharmacies are exchanging insulin syringes from the recalled lot, any individuals who have suffered an injury and intend to pursue an insulin recall lawsuit, should preserve any remaining syringes pending review of the case. Any needles that are not returned should be stored and marked in a way to ensure that they are not used.

If you, a friend or family member have suffered and injury requiring medical treatment, request a free consultation and lawsuit evaluation.

I would like your article very much. You thougts are goods and the most inimportant information about syringe is a simple piston pump consisting of a plunger that fits tightly in a tube. The plunger can be pulled and pushed along inside a cylindrical tube (the barrel), allowing the syringe to take in and expel a liquid or gas through an orifice at the open end of the tube. The open end of the syringe may be fitted with a hypodermic needle, a nozzle, or tubing to help direct the flow into and out of the barrel.
