As nursing home lawyers, every day we speak with family members of residents injured in facilities nationwide.  The quality of nursing home care rendered to many senior citizens and individuals with disabilities should be considered a national disgrace.  The care quality could be improved if more focus was placed on resident care instead of profits.

A few months ago, a study by Consumer Reports found that non-profit nursing homes provide better care than those operated for a profit.  In nursing homes which are operated for a profit, the report found that only 2% were likely to provide “good care”.  When corners are cut and profits are placed above the health of the resident, tragic nursing home injuries can result.

Many of the nursing home injuries we investigate could have been prevented if the facility had adequate staffing, training, supplies, equipment and supervision.  Nursing home employees are often placed in an impossible situation where they are asked to do more than they are capable of accomplishing.  As a result, patients may be neglected and left unattended.  This can cause dehydration, malnutrition, bedsores and other serious nursing home injuries.

Just because an individual is older, disabled and in a nursing home, it does not mean that the quality of life they have is any less precious.  In fact, when an individual is already limited in what they are able to do, an injury which reduces their independence further is even more tragic.

Our nursing home lawyers investigate claims for injuries suffered which could have been prevented.  If you, a friend or family member have suffered an injury as a result of poor nursing home care quality, request a free consultation and claim evaluation.
