Trasylol side effects blamed for over 200 deaths
According to a recent report from the New York Post, at least 235 deaths could be blamed on Trasylol side effects. The heart surgery drug given to control bleeding has been linked to problems such as an increased risk of kidney damage, congestive heart failure, heart attacks and strokes.
>>INFORMATION: Trasylol Side Effects
Trasylol, an aprotinin injection, was approved by the FDA in 1993 as a medication to control bleeding during open heart surgery. The injection has been given to about 4.8 million people who could be prone to blood loss complications during bypass surgery.
Although the medication may slow blood loss during surgery, Trasylol side effects could increase the risk of death and other serious injuries. A recent Canadian study was suspended after preliminary data indicated that users face a 50% higher risk of death when compared to other drugs used for a similar purpose
The FDA has been closely monitoring the Trasylol risks for nearly two years. In January 2006, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that Trasylol side effects could double the risk of kidney failure and increase the risk of heart attacks, heart failure and strokes. In December 2006, the FDA added a black box warning to the heart surgery injection, which is the strongest warning the drug regulators can place on a medication. Last month, the FDA requested that the manufacturer, Bayer AG, recall Trasylol from the market due to the risk of serious injury and death.
According to the New York Post, FDA officials reported that they have received 235 reports of individuals who died after receiving a Trasylol injection to control bleeding during heart bypass surgery. Most experts agree that this is likely only a small fraction of the true number of Trasylol deaths which have occurred, since most injuries are not reported and many were likely unaware that deaths which occurred before 2006 could have been caused by the Trasylol injection.
TRASYLOL SIDE EFFECT LAWSUITS
The lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk have been representing individuals pursuing potential Trasylol lawsuits since February 2006. Since most people are unaware that they or a loved one received the aprotonin injection, our lawyers are investigating potential claims for any individuals who suffered kidney failure, a heart attack, stroke or death following heart bypass surgery. Cases are being reviewed to determine if the injury may be the result of Trasylol side effects.
If you, a friend or family member believe an injury or death may have been caused by the heart surgery injection, request a free Trasylol lawsuit evaluation.

I had open heart surgery with four bypasses in November of 2001 with full dose Trasylol. Then in March of 2005 I had a stroke that was called a cerebral vascular accident. This stroke has taken the strength and feelings in the right side of my body. Then in November of 2006 my cardiologist told me I needed a defibrilator/pacemaker implanted. Then in August of 2007 I had a second stroke or cerebral vascular accident that took my eyesight. I have no idea if Trasylol was used on me again when the defibrilator was implanted in me.
