Since our law firm began representing individuals who developed Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis after receiving an MRI or MRA with contrast, we have spoken with many concerned individuals with serious skin problems who have not been diagnosed with the rare condition.  Even without a diagnosis, our lawyers are investigating claims to help determine whether a gadolinium contrast agent may be responsible for the skin disorder.

>>INFORMATION: MRI Contrast Lawsuits

Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) is a very rare disease which could be caused when individuals with kidney insufficiencies are exposed to MRI contrast agents with gadolinium, a paramagnetic element.  The first case was identified in 1997, and it was first reported in medical literature in 2000.   However, it is still not well understood and many physicians are not even aware that the condition exists.

NSF could develop up to 18 months after exposure to the contrast agent.  What begins with the formation of hard and thick skin which stiffens joints and restricts movement, could quickly progress to an extremely debilitating condition.  In some cases, individuals require use of a wheelchair within weeks after the first on-set of symptoms.

MRI contrast lawsuits are being reviewed for individuals who have developed skin problems or other Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis symptoms, including:

  • Thickening of the skin which takes on a leathery or orange peel consistency
  • Contractures around joints which impair movement and mobility
  • Swelling, especially of the lower extremities
  • Redness or burning sensation
  • Deep pain in the hip bones or ribs
  • Yellow spots on the whites of the eyes
  • Generalized muscle weakness

NEPHROGENIC SYSTEMIC FIBROSIS LAWSUITS

NSF is a very serious condition which could be potentially fatal.  The only known causes are the gadolinium contrast injections administered for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance angiogram (MRA).  The makers of these injections failed to properly test their product in those with kidney problems, and their failure to warn of the possible dangers has prevented individuals from weighing the risks and benefits.

MRI lawsuits are being filed against the makers of the gadolinium contrast agents.  If you, a friend or family member believe that problems suffered after an MRI/MRA could be related to the exam, request a free lawsuit consultation to determine if compensation may be available.
