FAILURE TO WARN OF PLAVIX DANGERS

Despite claims by the makers of Plavix that it is superior to Aspirin in preventing heart attacks and strokes, lawsuits allege that studies have found that the medication carries no significant benefit and Plavix dangers may actually increase the risk of injury for some users.

For individuals with high cholesterol or high blood pressure, Plavix may double the risk of a heart attack, stroke or serious bleed.  For users with a history of gastrointestinal problems, the blood thinner has been linked to twelve (12) times the risk of recurrent ulcers or gi bleeds when compared with aspirin and a heartburn pill.

▸ INFORMATION: Plavix Side Effects

When Plavix was introduced, the warnings failed to sufficiently inform patients or the medical community of the risks associated with the blood thinner.

The manufacturers, Sanofi-Aventis and Bristol-Myer Squibb, owe a duty to their consumers and to the community to fully disclose all potential Plavix side effects.  Millions of Americans have been prescribed Plavix based upon representations that it is safe and carries benefits over aspirin.

Consumers rely on the skill, knowledge and judgment of drug manufacturers to warn of potential risks and side effects associated with medications.

Contrary to promotional statements, lawsuits alleged that Plavix is not safe for all of the purposes indicated by the makers. As a result of the failure to disclose the Plavix dangers, users were deprived of information necessary to weigh the benefits of the medication against the risks.

PLAVIX CLASS ACTION SUITS

Plavix was the second best selling drug in the world, generating over $6.3 billion in annual sales at one time.  Plavix was sold for approximately $4 per pill, compared with pennies apiece for the safer alternative, Aspirin.

Since it has been established that Plavix has no significant benefit over Aspirin, Plavix class action suits as well as individual lawsuits were filed throughout the country.

Plavix lawsuits alleged:

  • Plavix is defective in its design and formulation
  • Safer alternatives to Plavix are available
  • Plavix is unreasonably fit, suitable or safe for the promoted uses
  • Potential for Plavix side effects outweigh the benefits associated with the drug

The attorneys at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A, are no longer pursuing new claims on behalf of individuals who may have been injured as a result of the use of Plavix.
