ADHD drugs will contain new warnings regarding heart problems
According to the FDA, warning labels for ADHD drugs will be updated to indicate that medications such as Adderal, Strattera and Ritalin have side effects which could lead to heart problems. There have been reports of serious injuries, including sudden death, for children and adults who took the drugs.

The new warnings will be added to 15 different medications used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). In addition, the manufacturers have been directed to develop guides for patients to be distributed when the medication is dispensed.

The potential heart related side effects of Ritalin, Adderral, Straterra, Concerta and other ADHD drugs may include:
- increased blood pressure
- rapid heart rate
- risk of sudden death for those with cardiovascular problems
- heart attacks and strokes for adult patients
The FDA warning also indicates that potential mental health problems could be caused by the medications, included the possibility of hearing voices, becoming suspicious for no reason or manic behavior.
Many experts believe that these warnings should have been required over a year ago. The announcement comes nearly twelve months after FDA panels recommended that these warnings be added. The manufacturers have known of the increased risk of heart problems associated with ADHD medications for a long time, and it is possible injuries could have been prevented if the warnings and guides had been issued earlier.
Proper warnings and recommendations regarding side effects of Ritalin and other ADHD medications help reduce the risk of problems for children and adults who are given the drugs. The main ADHD symptoms are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity which may lead to difficulty at school, problems at work or low self-esteem. While ADHD drugs provide great benefits for many individuals, it is still important that patients and doctors be given complete information regarding risks and side effects so that they can make an informed decision before taking the medication.
The product liability lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. have been following the developments regarding ADHD medication heart problems for some time. Potential lawsuits are being reviewed for adults and children who suffered serious injuries as a result of side effects of Ritalin, Adderal, Straterra and other ADHD drugs.

Good for you and your work in exposing this horrific mess. When my son turns 18 (he is presently 9) we plan on pursuing the school corporation in court for their “aggressive” targeting of him. See the tactics they used at our website. ADHDSCAM.COM.
Best of luck to you and the kids!
