Razor Scooter Recall: Torn Achilles Tendons
Yesterday, a Razor Scooter recall was issued over 100,000 three-wheel “PowerWing” scooters sold between October 2007 and September 2008. The Razor scooters contain sharp edges on the underside of the foot platform, which has caused several children to suffer severe ankle injuries and torn Achilles tendons.

The Razor Power Wing scooters have a different design from the traditional Razor scooters that have been widely used by children over the past ten to fifteen years. The PowerWing scooters have three wheels, and contain small foot platforms that extend out from the center support bar. The sharp edges on this foot platform have caused at least 10 reports of injuries, including 4 children who required Achilles tendon surgery and three who required ankle stitches.

The Achilles tendon attaches the calf to the heel bone and a rupture of the tendon is a very painful injury that often results in permanent disability. Surgery to repair an Achilles tendon tear can require months of rehabilitation and therapy and substantial medical expenses.
The Razor PowerWing Scooter recall applies to vehicles with serial numbers beginning with:
- Y0708 through Y0712
- Y0801 through Y0808
The serial number is located on the bottom of the scooter near the front wheel.
Razor is offering free replacements of the foot platforms for individuals who own one of the recalled PowerWing scooters. Consumers can contact Razor at (800) 314-9870 to arrange the replacement. However, if you, a friend or family member have suffered an ankle or Achilles tendon injury from the Razor Power Wing scooter, you should speak with one of our product liability lawyers before contacting Razor.
To review potential legal rights which may exist for a Razor scooter injury, request a free consultation and claim evaluation.
