The lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are reviewing potential Multaq lawsuits for individuals throughout the United States who suffered liver problems, liver failure, heart attacks, heart failure or strokes. These injuries may have been caused by side effects of Multaq, which it appears the drug maker failed to adequately warn about.

Multaq (dronedarone) is a relatively new heart drug manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis, which was approved by the FDA in July 2009 for treatment of temporary atrial fibrillation, or abnormal heart rhythms. However, an increasing number of warning signals suggest that the drug may increase the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening health problems.

Earlier this year, the FDA issued a warning about the potential risk of Multaq liver damage after identifying a number of reports involving a liver injury among Multaq users, including cases where individuals required a liver transplant. The FDA required the drug maker to update the original Multaq warning label and medication guides as a result.

More recently, Multaq was determined to be so dangerous for some potential users that a clinical trial was halted early after at least 16 people dued due to heart problems. That study was designed to test the effects of Multaq on individuals with permanent atrial fibrillation, but Sanofi told more than 3,000 participants to discontinue use of the drug in July, after data suggested that there was a two-fold increase in the risk of cardiovascular problems including heart attacks, heart failure, strokes and death.

As a result of Sanofi-Aventis’ failure to adequately research their medication and warn about the potential liver and heart risks before promoting use of Multaq, compensation may be available through a product liability lawsuit. The Multaq lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are investigating all potential claims under a contingency fee agreement, which means that there are no out of pocket expenses to hire our law firm and there are no attorney fees unless a recovery is obtained for a Multaq injury.
