A nationwide Dole salad recall was issued today after bags of Dole’s Hearts Delight salad mix was found to be contaminated with E. Coli bacteria, which could result in severe illness.  The food poisoning lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are reviewing potential Dole salad lawsuits for individuals who required medical treatment for food poisoning after eating the recalled lettuce.

>>INFORMATION: E. Coli Food Poisoning

The Dole salad recall applies to all packages of “Dole Hearts Delight” salad mix with a best if used by date of September 19, 2007 and a production code of A24924A or A24924B.  The Dell salad mix was placed on store shelves within the past two weeks and

All bags of the recalled salad lettuce were processed at the same Dole plant in Springfield, Ohio on September 6, 2007 and were placed on store shelves shortly thereafter.  The company indicates it was sold in Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and surrounding states, but users throughout the United States should be concerned about possible contamination.

Dole was also involved in a nationwide bagged spinach recall last year, in September 2006.  The contaminated spinach resulted in at least three deaths and hundreds of cases of severe illness caused by E. coli.  An investigation by health officials ultimately tied that e.coli outbreak to a cattle ranch next to California spinach fields belonging to one of Dole’s suppliers.

E.COLI SALAD FOOD POISONING

Lettuce contaminated with E. coli may not appear to be spoiled or smell different than any other lettuce.   However, food poisoning which could results from eating the recalled lettuce could cause serious and potentially fatal illness.

Symptoms of food poisoning caused by the e. coli bacteria could include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea.  While most healthy adults typically recover within a few days, children, elderly and those with a weak immune system could be susceptible to more serious problems, such as seizures, strokes, need for blood transfusions or kidney dialysis.

Approximately 10% of those affected by E. coli food poisoning suffer with hemolytic-uremic syndrome, also known as HUS.  This serious condition is associated with a sudden decrease in blood platelets, destruction of red blood cells and kidney failure.  Other possible complications from HUS could include nerve damage, brain damage or death.

 DOLE SALAD RECALL LAWSUITS

The E. coli lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are investigating potential food poisoning lawsuits as a result of the Dole salad recall for individuals who suffered severe injuries resulting in medical treatment after eating the Dole Hearts Delight salad mix.  The bacteria is typically linked to animal intestinal waste and contamination is often caused by improper handling on the farm or mistakes during the packaging process.  If you, a friend or a family member believe you may have a case, request a free claim evaluation.
