Since the artificial knee replacement hit the market, a large number of complaints and adverse event reports have emerged, with many indicating that a DePuy Attune knee failed after the tibial baseplate detached. However, no DePuy Attune knee recall has been issued, and it appears that the manufacturer has failed to take adequate steps to warn consumers about risks associated with the implant.
While DePuy Synthes has maintained that the rate of Attune knee problems is comparable to the knee replacement industry, dozens of adverse event reports have been filed with the FDA during the first half of 2017.
During a two month period, the FDA received at least 21 reports of DePuy Attune tibial loosening, with many resulting in the need for revision surgery.
In many cases, DePuy Attune knee complications resulted in failure of the joint replacement within one or two years, sometimes occurring within months after the implant was received.
In June 2016, a study published in the Journal of Arthroplasty warned about risks associated with knee implants like the Attune, which have thicker cobalt-chromium tibial trays that may increase the risk of bone loss. This may the higher-than-expected reports of baseplate loosening and failure.
Since only about 10% of all adverse events associated with medical implants are ever reported to the FDA, the safety signals associated with the DePuy Attune knee cause concern.
Reports of tibial loosening with DePuy Attune Knee implants appear to be widely under reported, and our knee replacement lawyers are investigating whether financial compensation may be available for individuals who received this implant.
