According to an Order issued December 3, 2008, by the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, every federal Mentor ObTape bladder sling lawsuit will be transferred to the U.S. District Court for the District of Georgia, where they will be consolidated for pretrial proceedings before Judge Clay D. Land.

The ObTape lawyers at Saiontz & Kirk, P.A. are investigating potential cases on behalf of women who have suffered severe and painful complications caused by the Mentor vaginal sling. Over 35,000 women worldwide received the Mentor ObTape transvaginal sling while it was on the market between 2003 and 2006. As a result of a defective “nonwoven” design, a number of women have experienced bladder lift problems caused by the ObTape sling, such as infections, erosion and other painful complications.

Consolidation of individual product liability lawsuits in an MDL, or Multidistrict Litigation, allows the parties and the Court to conserve resources and helps avoid inconsistent rulings by different judges in different states. It also allows plaintiffs to pool their resources and expenses by avoiding duplicative discovery.

An MDL has many traits that would be similar to how a Mentor ObTape class action lawsuit would be handled, but each case does remain a separate claim. The consolidation only applies to pretrial proceedings, and if the cases do not settle or otherwise resolve, they will be transferred back to the original jurisdiction where they are filed for trial.

There are currently only 22 Mentor ObTape Bladder Sling lawsuits that have been filed in federal court, but many more potential cases are still being investigated and reviewed throughout the United States for women who have experienced problems like:

  • Vaginal or Pelvic Pain
  • Bloody Discharge
  • Pain During Sex
  • Vaginal Infections
  • Severe Pain in the Back, Hips and Legs

My girlfriend is recovering from her forth surgery this year from complications accociated with the Mentor OB tape that was implanted in 2006 after they quit production. The doctors have removed two different pieces and we (she the most) are praying that is all of it.
We have proof that it was Mentor OB tape. Right now she is a the hospital as she goes everyday for high powered antibiotics.

in November of 2002, I had a bladder prolapse operation. I have not had sex since this operation because of the severe pain it caused. I went to the doctor and had an exam and was told that everything looked good………I have not had sex because of pain that it caused since the operation. I tried everything possible to help but to no avail…….liquids, pills, jells, etc. You name I tried it. Nothing worked. I don’t know if this is the operation you are referring to or not
